When texts are at the center of instruction, students synthesize and analyze text in pairs or groups. Today, Ms. Khiat’s students are examining characters and their internal and external responses to the events in Summer of the Mariposas.

What a treat! We scheduled a morning observation with the Pharmacy Tech teacher at Career Institute South, and Director Jones gave us a tour of the entire facility. Ms. Jones, in designing the Institute, was so purposeful and intentional in every step. It was so impressive to see in person! Her motto is we build the passion! And, they do! Just one more thing I love about Dallas ISD!

Winners Circle celebrates our Teachers of the Year and Teachers of Promise at Dallas ISD! I always enjoy helping our Employee Experiences team with their events (in a very small scale compared to what all they do.). They make magic!

Principal Certification Training — Using evidence to align performance ratings

Photos from Dr. Tammy Whitlock's post 02/17/2026

One of the most common questions I get asked when certifying principals on the observation rubric is how to effectively support and evaluate bilingual teachers when appraisers don’t know the language. It was a treat for me to go to Ms. Rangel’s classroom today to see how intentional observations and seeing the classroom within the lens of the students and the rubric can help support principals with this question. Watching students mesh their rigorous learning with effective discourse and probing questioning is effective in every classroom.
