The fastest way to lose control of a sales conversation?
Start without a clear purpose.
Most sales calls drift because the prospect doesn’t know:
👉 Why they are there
👉 What to expect
👉 Where the conversation is going
High-performing salespeople fix this in the first 30 seconds.
They use a simple Purpose Statement:
“The purpose of my call today is to understand your current process and see if it makes sense to take a next step.”
That one sentence:
✔️ Sets expectations
✔️ Builds trust
✔️ Keeps the conversation on track
It seems simple but most people skip it. And it shows.
This is just one of many small habits that makes a big difference in sales performance.

“For a long time, we didn’t have the best reputation internally.”
That’s how one leader described a clinical team in a global organization.
Communication was poor. Conflict was unhealthy. Teams operated in silos. Performance suffered.
At one point, they struggled to complete even a single clinical study in a year.
The issue wasn’t capability. It was trust.
Without trust:
🛑 Conversations were avoided
🛑 Feedback felt personal
🛑 Teams stayed guarded
Then something shifted. during a Five Behaviors® session, when the team was pushed to be vulnerable. It was uncomfortable but it worked.
Walls came down. Conversations opened up. People started listening instead of defending.
That was the turning point.
From there, everything else improved.
Within months:
✔️ Collaboration increased
✔️ Teams worked together instead of in silos
✔️ Productivity quadrupled
Same team. Same organization. Different behavior. Because when trust goes up, everything else gets easier.

Most sales training fails within 30 days. Here’s why.
Learning without reinforcement doesn’t stick.
Teams attend training, feel motivated, and then fall right back into old habits.
Why?
Because there’s no system holding the behavior in place:
🛑 No tracking of key activities
🛑 No coaching tied to real conversations
🛑 No accountability to a defined process
Consistency is built in daily ex*****on, outside the classroom.
If you’re looking for a practical, step-by-step framework to make sales skills stick, The Sales Messenger breaks it down in a way you can actually apply every day.
What has been your experience after sales training? Does it actually work?

At a growing financial services organization, there was no consistent approach to employee development. As a result, communication and alignment began to suffer.
They realized something needed to shift. We helped them introduce Everything DiSC®, a simple way to understand how people work and communicate.
And it changed everything.
People realized:
👉 Not everyone communicates the same way
👉 Different styles aren’t wrong – they are simply different
👉 Most misunderstandings aren’t intentional
Conversations improved. Collaboration increased. Teams became more effective.
Over time, development went from nonexistent to one of the most in-demand parts of the organization. Even the CIO wanted to ensure everyone was taking an Everything DiSC assessment.
The impact:
✔️ Stronger communication
✔️ 90% employee retention
🏆 Recognized as a Best Place to Work
Same organization. Different awareness.
When people understand each other better, everything else gets easier.
