Morning Meetings, history simulations, and creative storytelling—our fourth grade eagles have been busy learning and connecting, with a special feature of Elizabeth Bentrup's class! 🤝🎨📚

From cooperative games and crafts to an engaging Texas Revolution simulation designed by Dr. Cullins, students are practicing leadership and note-taking as they explore the decisions of Mexican and Texian generals. 🇲🇽⭐️🇺🇸

They’ve also been channeling their creativity with their own “If You Give a…” stories, inspired by the classic If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. 🐭🍪 Whether it’s “If you give a general a cannon” or “If you give Caroline a lacrosse stick,” their imaginations know no bounds!

Through historical fiction book clubs, they’re diving deeper into character, setting, and leadership, bringing history to life in a truly dynamic way. ✨📖

Excitement is building in Ms. Fitzpatrick’s middle school class as they dove into their latest novel, A Wrinkle in Time! 🌌📚

They kicked things off with thought-provoking questions like, “Is life harder for those who don’t fit in?” and “Can love conquer all?” 🤔💭 Students engaged in lively small group discussions and shared their insights during our full class conversation. They also explored the world of A Wrinkle in Time through background info on the author, Madeleine L’Engle (a fellow Episcopalian!), and dug into the novel’s different versions and covers. 📖✨ Predictions are in the air as we prepare for this timeless journey through space and time!

Starting the semester strong with a classic! 🖤

Last week, Christy O’Neal’s middle school art class dove into the world of traditional still life, honing their observational skills through charcoal and exploring how different media change our perspective. From the fine details in line work to the depth of value shading, every stroke brought a new way of seeing the world around us! 🎨

Third grade is mapping out history! 🗺️✨

Our students just kicked off their 50 states and capitals adventure, starting with Texas and the Southwest region before heading to the Northeast to explore the origins of the United States. 🌟 From mapping the journey from England to America to creating timelines of the 13 colonies, these young historians are immersing themselves in the challenges, emotions, and events that shaped our nation.

Swipe to see Mrs. Hopper's students and their creative timelines and travel routes come to life! 🇺🇸✏️

Today, we remember that our virtue for this month is openness.

At ESD, we embrace the pursuit of understanding, knowledge, and wisdom. Through curiosity and questioning, we explore the wonders of our world and listen to diverse voices to better understand who we are and why we exist. 🌎✨

Love the Lord your God
With all your heart,
With all your soul,
And with all your mind.
(Matthew 22.37)

Skydiving into science? Yes, please! 🪂 For the first quarter of eighth grade science, our Eagles study physics concepts like gravity, force in motion, and velocity with Mr. Scott Goetsch. This week, they put their learning to the test at iFly! 🌬️

From calculating drag and terminal velocity to experiencing the thrill of the wind tunnel, students get hands-on learning like never before. This annual trip has been part of ESD's curriculum for 8 years, combining unforgettable experiences with real-world applications. Goetsch shared, “A lot of students always say they would definitely do it again.”

The day didn’t stop there! Back on campus, eighth graders participated in “Transition into Upper School” programming, hearing from Upper School ambassadors and experiencing the admission process to build empathy for incoming students.

This day is the perfect blend of learning, growth, and Eagle pride! 🦅

💙🍎 Making a Difference, One Meal at a Time! 🍎💙

Some of our sixth grade eagles spent their Service Day partnering with Hunger Busters, making fresh, nutritious meals for children in need across Dallas! 💪✨

Hunger Busters is more than a food organization—it’s a lifeline for thousands of students. Since its founding in 2012, they’ve grown from serving 300 children per week to 3,500 meals each school day across 11 Dallas ISD schools and 6 afterschool programs. 🙌

With proper nutrition, students see improvements in behavior, grades, test scores, and emotional well-being. These meals are more than just food—they’re fuel for brighter futures! 🌟

A big thank you to for their incredible work, and to our 6th graders for embodying ESD’s mission to serve others. 🦅❤️
