TexProtects

TexProtects As of January 2017, we are the Texas affiliate of Prevent Child Abuse America. To achieve our mission, TexProtects engages in research, advocacy and education.

TexProtects, the Texas chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, advances public policy and local implementation to strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect. TexProtects is autonomous, nonpartisan and is the only membership-driven agency in Texas to take a comprehensive and in-depth approach to child abuse and prevention and apply it to a statewide advocacy and education effort. Our wo

rk encompasses both meeting the immediate needs of at-risk children and their families and communities, as well as developing long term solutions. TexProtects' goal is to create broad-scale, systems change via major public policy innovations of child protection systems and to leverage private funds with public funds to bring high-impact prevention solutions to scale. TexProtects advocates for better policies, reforms and appropriate increases in federal, state and local funding for three priority areas:

Prevention: Increasing investment in proven child abuse prevention programs
Protection: Strengthening and reforming the CPS system
Healing: Ensuring victims receive adequate and accessible treatment

We are so inspired by the providers, leaders and advocates who stepped up to share their insights at our From South Central Texas to the Capitol convening.

Gathering with partners across Bexar County and surrounding communities gave us an invaluable look at what families truly need right now. Hearing these experiences firsthand ensures our advocacy remains deeply rooted in reality as we prepare for the 90th Legislative Session.

Thank you to Senator José Menéndez for your incredible participation and to our cohosts, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and SJRC Texas & Belong, for helping make this day possible!

Grateful for the providers, leaders and advocates who raised their voice for families and children at our From Central Texas to the Capitol convening!

Last week, TexProtects heard about the realities families face directly from the Central Texas community. Through thought-provoking and engaging discussions, we gained invaluable insights about what children and families need to thrive as we look ahead to the 90th Legislative Session.

Thank you to our partners at United Way for Greater Austin for cohosting the event, Representative Donna Howard, Representative John Bucy III, Michelle Wittenburg and all the participants who came ready to share their experiences.
