As we prepare for summer applications to open on November 1, we wanted to spotlight another student. Madison went abroad this Summer 2026 on the SMU-in-Madrid program.

From Madison: “I chose this program to fulfill my language credits needed for graduation, and because I think 5 weeks is the perfect program length. Not too short and not too long! The biggest lesson I learned was how to really push myself outside of my comfort zone and apply myself. In a foreign country where you don’t speak their language, you have to learn how to navigate the language and cultural differences on your own and are bound to make many mistakes. Even though some locals gave me a hard time or laughed at me, I continued to try my best with my Spanish no matter how uncomfortable I was.”

✈️ If you’re wanting to explore options for the Summer 2027 term abroad visit the Abroad Fair that will be hosted on Wednesday October 28, 4-7 PM in the MHPS Quad.
