Before Highland Park middle and intermediate school students retold a classic fairy tale, they got a taste of Broadway magic themselves.
Kerry Butler, a Tony-nominated actress whose stage credits include Belle in Beauty and the Beast and roles in more than ten other Broadway productions, and Pierce Cravens, who played Chip in Beauty and the Beast before becoming an actor and producer, visited MIS/HPMS ahead of the school’s production of Beauty and the Beast Jr.
The two shared stories, answered questions, and offered hard-won perspectives to the fifth through eighth graders who had spent months building props, mastering choreography, and perfecting demanding vocal parts.

So happy we were able to bring Mark Shelton back to Boone, Bradfield and Hyer. He brings such amazing energy while really educating the kids on percussion instruments.

Just a little shout out to an HP Alum, Claire DeJean. So fun to see our former students keep shining. Way to go!!! And as she said in an article posted by Park Cities People: “To be able to bring (the show) to Dallas is another dream because I grew up doing theater at Highland Park High School and in the Dallas area,” she said. “I’m just excited to perform in my hometown at one of our greatest venues.”
Tony-Winning Play's National Tour Ends at Home for Dallas-Born Lead Claire DeJean It's fate that Dallas' own Claire DeJean will take her final bow on the "Stereophonic" national Broadway tour at the Winspear Opera House this weekend.

Thinking back to the amazing performance of Beauty and the Beast, Jr. by the Raider Drama students. So much talent and spectacular costumes and sets and direction from our fabulous teachers. And HP Arts got to help out with the dazzling choreography too…every detail was perfection! Such a treat…wish we could see it again and again!
