On August 26, our President and CEO, Tori Mannes, and Cassandra Duran, former ChildCareGroup parent and current CCG board member, provided testimony before the Governor's Task Force on Governance of Early Childhood Education and Care in Austin.

Together, they shared a powerful message: when families can access quality early childhood education and coordinated support services, the impact extends far beyond the classroom.

Cassandra's story is a testament to what's possible. With the support of ChildCareGroup's Early Head Start program, she was able to pursue career opportunities, achieve financial stability, become a homeowner, and provide a strong foundation for her children. Today, she serves on our Board of Directors, helping advocate for other families across Texas.

As Tori shared with Task Force members: “A child’s readiness for school and a parent’s ability to support that child are not separate outcomes. They are part of the same success story.”

At ChildCareGroup, we believe children do better as their parents do better. When families thrive, communities succeed.

School may be back in session, but the sun is out, and temperatures are still sky-high. 🥵 That's why Charlie is here with some paws-itively important sun safety reminders! ☀️🐾

Whether you’re heading to school, the playground, the park, or the backyard, a little extra sun protection goes a long way.

Always remember to:
• Keep babies in the shade whenever possible.
• Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours.
• Wear lightweight clothing, wide-brim hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses.
• Limit direct sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
•Take extra precautions near water, sand, and concrete, where the sun’s rays can reflect.

End-of-summer pool parties are in full swing, so Charlie is making a splash with some important water safety tips! 💦🐾

Whether you’re at the pool, lake, or splash pad, remember:
• Never leave children unattended in or near water, even for a few seconds.
• Stay within arm’s reach of young children and inexperienced swimmers.
• Put phones and other distractions away while supervising.
• Enroll children in age-appropriate swim lessons.
• Use a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket when boating or around open water.
• Make sure backyard pools have a four-sided fence with a self-closing, self-latching gate.
• A little extra attention can make all the difference.

Hot summer days call for plenty of water!

Keep your little ones hydrated by:
• Offering water every 15–20 minutes during outdoor play.
• Encouraging them to drink before they feel thirsty.
• Bringing a reusable water bottle wherever you go.
• Giving babies younger than 6 months breast milk or formula instead of water.
• Watching for signs of dehydration, especially during outdoor activities.

Please join us in welcoming Rachel Assi to ChildCareGroup as our new Vice President of Development!

Rachel brings more than 15 years of nonprofit leadership and fundraising expertise to our team, along with a passion for building meaningful relationships and advancing mission-driven work. Throughout her career, she has helped organizations secure transformational funding, develop strategic fundraising initiatives, and navigate periods of growth and change.

Most recently, Rachel served as Chief Development Officer at Lumin Education, where she helped raise more than $3 million in bridge funding and $1.3 million annually in operating revenue. Her experience also includes consulting with nonprofit organizations across Texas and serving on grantmaking and financial committees for organizations such as Texas Women’s Foundation, Mid-America Arts Alliance, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Rachel is a collaborative leader and lifelong learner whose expertise will help strengthen ChildCareGroup’s impact for children and families across our community.
