Prism Yoga is a unique concept which brings awareness to each individual practicing by combining yoga postures, strength exercises and the power of colour. Prism Yoga was orignially designed for police academies but has now opened up to also be used by many individuals to help supplement any current fitness, sport or yoga program. The power to learn the unique connections of the human body is the first step in the journey to "know thyself"

We have all had our lives turned upside down in some form or fashion over the last week. Some, if not many of us will find ourselves in our homes, out of our routines and left with plenty of thoughts swirling in our heads. While we are finding ways to acclimate to our new temporary norm I feel it’s important that we maintain balance in our lives. I want to share with you a few ways of finding balance during this time.
~ comfort food WITH produce and clear broth soups
~ netflix binging WITH reading
~ ‘sofa yoga’ WITH traditional yoga
~ sedentary life WITH a walk outside (between spring showers)
~ texting/social media WITH calling family and friends
~ media WITH documentaries
~ libations WITH elevated water consumption
~ try maintaining your regular sleep cycles
~ plan a trip or a social gathering for when this passes
Today is the first day of spring and while we cannot go out and enjoy life in the way to which we are accustomed, we can still find ways of keeping balance in our lives. Balance does take purpose and intention, which can be 2 things that we will find are missing in our lives especially if we are locked down in our homes, unable to socialize, get exercise, etc… in short, please take care of yourselves; body, mind and spirit. Be good to those you are surrounded with for long periods of time and bring some quiet and peace to your life. We may not be able to be together in a traditional sense but we can still be there for each other

what we REject in ourselves we PROject onto others. we make the other guy the heavy for our subconscious dark side and cast vehemently our judgement and dislike in his direction...

what a year. as i look back over the many moments of 2019 i have covered the spectrum of highs and lows. launching prism yoga, friendships and of course with self i have discovered a great deal of joy, pain, fear and discovery. the most endearing of all the experiences was learning how loved and supported i am in my journey.
it’s easy to feel disconnected during the hard days, especially when that’s all i wanted to do at times. every day, every single day there were people there with a hand extended for me to simply trust, reach out and hold on to.
there is a light in all of us and it takes courage to let it shine. let your tribe reveal themselves to you as you become vulnerable enough to shed your armor and let the light shine through.
there will be those who try to shroud your light... let them come. be thankful for their hand in testing your trust not only in yourself but your faith in your tribe.
we will never be accepted by all ~ the best we can do is to realize that all who are in our lives have a role.
embrace and cherish those who love you, let go of those who do not and most importantly... trust yourself, trust the process and stay on your path.
a deep heartfelt thank you to my friends and family for what would life be without the relationships we forge in life...

now that those temps are dropping and we get to pull out the hoodies ~ it’s also a time for ‘retracting’. hibernation can put us in a more sedentary state as we curl up on the sofa next to the fire. there is a caveat to that comfort and that is our body folding in on itself.
our physical bodies curl up to to keep warm which in turn puts pressure on the front of the body and excessive stretch on the backside.
there is a solution for that and the best part is.... you don’t have to get out of ur pj’s to do it.
backbends. i know what you’re thinking and no, it doesn’t have to be full ROM backbends. i am providing the beginner, intermediate and advanced versions as visual aids. pick the one that works best for you BUT push yourself when it’s time to progress.
here are some things to keep in mind when starting a backbend practice. ground yourself in your feet.
keep constant and consistent tension in your glutes while also drawing your p***c bone toward your bellybutton. intermediate and advanced positions have your hands by your ears and imagine pushing the floor away from you as you activate glutes and hamstrings while ‘standing your ground’ through your feet.
a backbend practice just once a day everyday will bring some noteworthy results. 𝓓𝓜 for questions and program designs as you may need to strengthen some areas for advancements in this pose.

to sit in silence may be one of the more challenging practices one can pursue. so many things in our lives cause distraction and pull us away from our true reality.
physical and emotional discomfort, the past, the future, loneliness etc... in turn we reach for phones, television, food, medication ~ you get the idea. but how does this become harmful and why do we do it. pain and grief.
pain and grief are the shadows to joy and love. it’s human nature to seek out joy and love however, nature teaches us there is a balance to all things. joy and love are no exception. distraction comes in and dilutes the pain but does not dissolve it. if left ignored over time it begins to rattle the cage, aka the body. i have tried to avoid these things and i have paid for it in body and mind. these things must be felt as deeply and wholly as their beloved counterparts. the hardships teach us, the pain reminds us and grief.... grief measures how deeply we care(d). these feelings can be brutal but we all feel them. they are not a punishment but a guide ~ learn from them, don’t run from them. they will not break you.
for guidance in these subtle energy practices, classes or privates, you know how to find me 𝓓𝓜

why am i all about the bulgarian split squat? several reasons;
🌈decreases spine load
🌈 increased stability
🌈strengthens knees, targets glutes, focuses primarily on quads
🌈core activated both on a dynamic and subtle level
🌈lengthens hip flexors
🌈unilateral training is more functional than bilateral
so grab a weight, start with a lower elevation, such as the spine of a row machine, and vary the placement of your grounded foot.
to maximize ankle mobility and knee strength and stability, slowly start working the grounded foot back toward your anchor BUT only in so far as you can maintain heavy heel contact with the floor. we will talk more about the feet and ankles soon so stay connected. prism yoga can heal what ails ya, 𝓓𝓜 for class schedules, training, rehabilitation and or body psychology work
