🌱🍓 Our Little Hawks Have Big Green Thumbs! 🥬🌸

Spring has officially sprung at Walnut Hill International Leadership Academy, and our community garden is blooming with success! Today was all about celebrating our incredible Garden Day, led by the amazing Ms. Menchaca! 👩‍🏫✨

Ms. Menchaca has been guiding our enthusiastic Pre-K Hawks and a fantastic group of 4th-grade leaders in the Garden Club.

Together, they’ve been learning the basics of planting and caring for flowers, plants, and vegetables. 🍅🌱

The best part of today? It’s harvest time! Our sweet Pre-K students and 4th graders were so proud to show off the veggies they grew with their own two hands.

Of course, no garden day is complete without a little extra fun. When they weren’t harvesting, our Hawks were busy making mud pies, chasing bubbles, drawing with sidewalk chalk, and getting creative with water painting! 🎨🧼☀️

We are so grateful for teachers like Ms. Menchaca who create such joyful, hands-on learning experiences for our campus. Check out these smiles!

☀️🏆 FIELD DAY 2026 WAS A BLAST, HAWKS! 🏆☀️

What an absolutely incredible day of fun, fitness, and teamwork at Walnut Hill International Leadership Academy! Our Pre-K 3 through 8th-grade Hawks brought the highest energy, biggest smiles, and best sportsmanship to our Field Day!

From the classic Potato Sack and Three-Legged races to the epic Tug-of-War, and the legendary Sleigh Ride, every single student shined. We filled buckets, passed torches, dashed down the track, and made memories that will last all year.

A massive SHOUTOUT to the dream team who made today possible:

🏅 Coach Johnson for organizing the best day ever!
💙 Our amazing PTA & Dad’s Club for the heavy lifting and endless support!
🌟 Ms. Mwana and the Kidz Zone crew for keeping the energy high!
🙌 Every single Parent Volunteer who stepped up to run stations and cheer!
👩🏽‍🎓 TJ Coach Ellis and the TJ high school students AVID
🧑‍🏫 And of course our teachers for watching students and keeping them safe during all the chaotic fun

🍉🍊 Big thanks to the parents who kept us fueled and cool at the HYDRATION STATION with generous donations of watermelons, oranges, and ice-cold water bottles!

The heart of Walnut Hill beats because of our incredible teachers! ❤️
This Teacher Appreciation Week, our Hawks took a moment to share the love. They surprised our teachers with notes of heartfelt thanks—but it was the smiles, hugs, and happy tears that really stole the show. 🥹
Our teachers do so much more than lesson plans. They:
• ✨ Make our students feel valued and important.
• 🛡️ Create a safe space where every child feels secure.
• 💪 Build the confidence our Hawks need to soar.
• 🌟 Inspire us all to work harder and dream bigger.
From the first morning smile to the last “see you tomorrow,” you make our campus feel like home. To our teachers: thank you for believing in us, caring for us, and making every student feel like they can change the world. 🌎🦅

In celebration of Black History Month we celebrated with our African-American Read In event in the library! Coach Johnson read “Bros” to our 2nd grade students and really brought the book to life with props and movement. 3rd grade watched the DISD AARI Live Stream and 4th grade artistically completed coloring pages of notable Black figures from history. The students proudly displayed their work in the library windows.

✍️📖 An Unforgettable Day with Author Alda P. Dobbs! 📖✍️

Our library was buzzing with literary excitement at Walnut Hill International Leadership Academy as we welcomed the incredibly talented author, Alda P. Dobbs! It was a day filled with inspiration, storytelling, and deep connection across grade levels.

A Magical Experience for Our Students:

🌸 3rd Grade: Our young readers were enchanted by Ms. Dobbs’ newest book, The Giving Flower: The Story of the Poinsettia. Each student walked away with their very own signed copy to treasure!

✨ 7th Grade: Our middle school book club has been diving deep into the historical novel Barefoot Dreams of Petra Luna, and all had the unique honor of getting their copies personally signed.

🌮 Lunch with the Author: The highlight of the day was an exclusive sit-down lunch where Ms. Palacios’ 7th grade book club shared a meal with Ms. Dobbs. They engaged in a Q&A session, sharing their insights and perspectives on her work. Ms. Dobbs was blown away by their high-level literary analysis and the thoughtfulness of their questions!

Seeing our students connect so deeply with the person behind the pages is one of the things that makes our library programs so special. A huge thank you to Alda P. Dobbs for spending the day with our leaders and encouraging their love for reading and writing.

🎁📚 Building Home Libraries Just in Time for the Holidays!

We are overflowing with gratitude after an incredible Book Bash held at Walnut Hill International Leadership Academy last week!

A massive THANK YOU to the wonderful non-profit organization, United2Learn, for partnering with us and the fantastic students and staff from Compass School of Texas to make this event a huge success.

Every single one of our 2nd and 3rd grade students received a FREE book to take home and keep! This generous donation is helping our students build their personal home libraries—a key to fostering a lifelong love of reading.

📖 Students were thrilled to choose books in both English and Spanish.
🏡 Empowering our families with resources to support literacy at home.
🎉 What a perfect way to kick off the holiday season!

Thank you, United2Learn, for your dedication to education and for making such a positive impact on our students!
