Alice by Heart transports Lewis Carroll’s classic to 1941 London, during the Blitz. Teenager Alice Spencer and her friend Alfred take shelter in a tube station—Alfred confined with tuberculosis. To comfort him, Alice retells Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from memory—and soon the bunker’s occupants morph into Wonderland characters. What begins as an escape becomes a poignant journey through grief, first love, and acceptance.
