At Lyle Elementary, our Awesome Awards recognize Lions who go above and beyond and make our school a better place. Today, we are excited to recognize Amora!

A student in Amora's class accidentally spilled water on herself and was worried that other students might make fun of her. The class did a great job reassuring her that everything would be okay, but Amora took it one step further.

Amora walked over to her friend, told her it was okay, and then took off her own sweatshirt and helped tie it around her friend so the wet spot was covered and she could feel more comfortable.

What makes this so special is that Amora didn't just notice someone who was struggling. She took action to help her friend feel better. She showed kindness, empathy, and a willingness to put someone else's needs before her own.

Thank you, Amora, for being such a caring and thoughtful Lion. You helped turn an uncomfortable moment into one where another student felt supported and cared for.

That is AWESOME!

At Lyle Elementary, our Awesome Awards recognize Lions who go above and beyond and make our school a better place. Today, we are excited to recognize Roman!

Roman was standing at the front of the line when another student stepped in front of him. It would have been easy to get frustrated or argue about who was supposed to be first, but Roman made a different choice.

Roman looked at the other student and said, “It’s okay. Would you like to share being line leader?” He then took the other student’s hand, and the two of them agreed to lead the line together.

What could have turned into a disagreement became a moment of kindness and friendship because of the choice Roman made.

Thank you, Roman, for showing kindness, patience, and leadership. You found a way to include someone else and make the situation better for everyone.

That is AWESOME!

Friday Focus - September 11, 2026

At the beginning of August, I returned to work here at Lyle. August is filled with planning, meetings, spreadsheets, schedules, and all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into getting a school ready. All of that work is important, but what I really look forward to is when our kids come back.

There is just something special about the first week of school.

Over the past week, I’ve visited classrooms, played games at recess, talked with kids, and handed out Awesome Awards. As I’ve been out and about, two things have become very clear: you have wonderful kids, and we have an amazing staff who truly loves what they do.

As we go through this year together, I hope you feel that.

There will be days when everything goes great, and there will be times when we face challenges. That’s part of doing school together. But through all of it, I want you to know that we care about your child, we love getting to work with them, and we will always be willing to work alongside you to support your child and your family.

We are incredibly lucky to get to do this work at Lyle. Thank you for trusting us with your kids. It is a responsibility we take seriously and a privilege we are grateful for every day.

At Lyle Elementary, our Awesome Awards recognize Lions who go above and beyond and make our school a better place. Today, we are excited to recognize Remi!

Remi noticed there were a lot of paper towels on the floor in the girls’ bathroom. Instead of ignoring the mess or assuming someone else would take care of it, Remi stopped and cleaned them all up so Mr. Greg, our custodian, wouldn’t have to.

That may seem like a small thing, but it says a lot about Remi. She saw something that needed to be done, took responsibility, and helped take care of our school and the people in it.

Thank you, Remi, for being such a thoughtful and helpful Lion and for making Lyle Elementary a better place. That is AWESOME!

At Lyle Elementary, we love recognizing our Lions when they do something AWESOME! Our Awesome Awards are like positive behavior referrals, a chance for us to celebrate students who go above and beyond, show kindness, make great choices, or make a positive difference for someone else.

Today, we are excited to recognize Willow!

Willow noticed a Kindergartener who was upset because she couldn’t find her class. Instead of just walking by, Willow stopped to make sure she was okay. She comforted the student, found an adult to let them know what was happening, and then walked the Kindergartener to her classroom.

Willow saw someone who needed help and took action without being asked. Her kindness helped another student feel safe and cared for.

Thank you, Willow, for being such a great example of what it means to take care of others and for making Lyle Elementary a better place. That is AWESOME!
