The beginning of a new school year often arrives with excitement—and a fair amount of chaos. In the midst of it all, Fr. Josh’s reflection invites us to speak and live with love, patience, and peace. A timely reminder as we settle into new rhythms.

What does Christian eloquence look like in a world full of noise, outrage, and endless argument?

In his latest reflection, “Martyr of Love: Explorations of Christian Eloquence,” Joshua Whitfield considers the witness of the saints and the call to speak truth with charity—through lives and words marked not by bitterness, but by sacrificial love.

This summer, six St. Rita alumni participated in a life-changing Mother-Daughter Mission Trip to Guatemala with Orphans Outreach. Erin C. ‘24, Cece A. ’24, Mia D. ’24, Audrey L. ’24, Lexi T. ’23, and Bridget H. ’24 spent a week serving alongside their mothers, putting their faith into action through a week of service, compassion, and love.

Before the trip, the mothers and daughters raised funds to purchase four bunk beds and bedding for four deserving families. During their week in Guatemala, they served at several Montessori schools and community programs, assisting teachers, playing with children, and sharing kindness, compassion, and joy with everyone they met.

Although they traveled to serve others, the experience left an even greater impact on those who went. The week was a powerful reminder to count our blessings, lead with grateful hearts, and recognize the joy that comes from serving others. It is a journey these young women and their mothers will remember forever. It strengthened their faith, deepened their appreciation for others, and inspired them to continue serving others wherever they are called.
