Today concluded Black History Month at DIS, and students were welcomed with the chance to engage with impactful speakers and live performances during multiple assemblies. These events and activities provided wonderful opportunities to learn, celebrate and reflect on the contributions of Black leaders and culture.

Today, DIS students celebrated 100 days of school. Teachers and students at our Churchill campus commemorated this special day by dressing up as 100-year-olds and participating in games and activities centered around the number 100.

Recently, DIS students who took last year's DELF exam received their official diplomas issued by the Ministry of Education of France in a special ceremony held at our Waterview campus. Students celebrated the passing of this French proficiency exam which is a major milestone in French education. Bravo to all the students who were a part of this beautiful ceremony!

Recently, our middle school students attended their Winter Boum (a boum is a French party or social event often with music and dancing). Students danced all night as the DJ played hit after hit. We would like to give a special thanks to our PTO and Student Affairs team for making this event possible!

Today, middle school students at our Waterview campus held their Medieval Fair. Students dressed in costume and learned all about music, fashion, art and literature from the Middle Ages, before concluding with games and quizzes about what they learned.

Yesterday, February 10, several members of our high school swim team attended the TAPPS State Championship Swim Meet in San Antonio, TX. We would like to congratulate all of our DIS swimmers who gave their all in the pool, including: Clothilde Martin de Beaucé, Clara Quivy, Lenka Reniers, Albane Poirier, Salomé Baudry, Jeanne Vermenouze and Julia Rad. A big congratulations to Sophia Smith who took home the state title in the 100 yard backstroke. Allez les Tigres !

Continuing to inspire students to become global citizens, we recently welcomed father of 4th grade student, Edward Hsia. Mr. Hsia visited our 4th grade/CM1 classes to teach students about the Lunar New Year (also known as the Lantern Festival), how the lunar cycle works in Chinese culture and many traditions associated with this important day. Students then participated in an exciting activity where they created their own lanterns to bring home.

Kicking off Black History Month at our Churchill campus today, lower school students started their morning with a special laser and light show by Prismatic Magic. Students learned all about important achievements and contributions to American history and culture by Black Americans through a show entirely made of music, lasers and lights.

Yesterday, February 2, DIS students, faculty and staff got together at the UT Dallas Jonsson Performance Hall for the 23rd annual DIS Music Concert. Students and teachers alike showcased their best vocal and instrumental performances for the enjoyment of an audience of their friends, family and peers. We would like to say a very special thank you to Mr. David Mouyal for organizing this year's concert.

Recently, DIS took part in the fourth annual ZAN AEFE-UNSS volleyball tournament (an event created to bring French schools in North America together) for the very first time. This event was organized and held at the Lycée Rochambeau in Washington DC and consisted of 46 teams from eleven schools with over 300 players participating over three days.
Our four girls' teams, in the Minimes Filles and Cadettes Filles categories, represented DIS with an exemplary attitude throughout the tournament. After three intense days of competition, DIS returned home victorious, with the Minimes Filles 1 team winning their championship! Congratulations to all of our DIS Tigres Volleyball players!

Today, Churchill students celebrated the Lunar New Year, also called the Spring Festival. This festival, celebrated in many Asian communities, marks the beginning of the new year and the end of winter. Each class celebrated by holding a special concert where they sang traditional Chinese songs in their best red and gold outfits, which represent good fortune and success in the new year.

We would like to congratulate our eleven DECA Club students who made it all the way through to the DECA Regional Competition: Ariana Steer, Oliver Innes, Chloe Rehmert, Suraya Royall, Lucas Bergier, Adam Sadek, Dia Duwaji, Aleena Hossain, Zain Ahmad, Clarisse Delmaire and Vincent Smith. Today, our Waterview campus welcomed 7th grade student, Gentry Martinez, as Principal for a Day. After beginning her morning with greeting families in carpool with Tom the Tigre, Gentry then began her share of principal duties, going on to observe an IB English Class with Ms. Vernon and then working on a 3-D project with Mr. Lee. Gaining insight into the inner workings of our school, Gentry then made an important campus-wide announcement that there will be a free dress day at Waterview for students on Friday, January 31.

Sophie formerly worked at DIS as Head of Student Affairs at our Waterview campus for many years, where she made indelible bonds with staff, faculty and students alike. This morning, TPS/EC2 students welcomed Brazilian parent, Gabriela Bello, who visited to kick off their new multilingual project. This project features a parent of a different culture, visiting students to share about the food, music, stories and practices from their country of origin. Mrs. Bello read aloud to students in her native Portuguese, before sharing some delicious pão de queijo, a popular Brazilian snack, with students.

Recently, in a continued effort to introduce students to different cultures, our Immersion class has been welcoming parents of different backgrounds to share their heritage. This initiative has been incredibly engaging and educational for our students. In the most recent parent visit, students learned about Chinese history through interactive discussions, engaged in a fun language activity, learned to sing a song in Chinese and enjoyed a hands-on component, as students created their own Chinese lanterns.

Please be advised that due to the impending winter storm and expected hazardous weather conditions, both DIS campuses will be closed on Thursday, January 9 and Friday, January 10, 2025. This decision is made in alignment with local school district closures to ensure the safety of the entire DIS community. Please note:
*High School classes (9th-12th) will operate virtually through Google Meet. Virtual classroom codes can be found on MyDIS.
*Middle School classes (6th-8th) will operate asynchronously at the discretion of each subject teacher. Please check MyDIS for further information.
*All Primary School classes (EC2 - 5th grade) are canceled.
All Extracurricular and Athletics activities are cancelled for all grade levels.
