MARSEILLE WELCOMES THE OLYMPIC FLAME TODAY! A HISTORIC MOMENT!

The city of Marseille, located in the South of France has the honour to be the first city to welcome the Olympic flame on French soil!

From Olympia, the Olympic flame headed for Athens to embark on the Belem, a historic ship and French maritime treasure, then crossed the Mediterranean, to reach land in Marseille!

Did you know that one of our French teachers and communication manager, Céline, is from Marseille? She is so proud of that historic event in her city!

[EVENT] BOOK CLUB ONLINE & IN PERSON

Join us for an in-person or online discussion about the book "Dix-sept ans suivi de La Tendresse du crawl" by Colombe Schneck.

IN PERSON: Wednesday, May 8th from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at l' Alliance Française de Dallas

ONLINE: Monday, May 13th from 6.30pm to 7.30pm

In Dix-sept ans (Seventeen Years Old), the novelist discovers she's pregnant at the age of first love and high school graduation. She decides not to keep the child, but the ordeal of an abortion transforms her from a glib young girl into a mature adult. In La Tendresse du crawl, a woman recounts her sweet and painful love story with Gabriel, a man who assures her of the sincerity of his love, but whose uncertain behavior casts doubt on the solidity of their relationship.

« C’est arrivé d’un seul coup, et voilà que j’entre dans un monde différent, où il n’est plus question de devoirs à faire, de films à voir, de copines à inviter ou à éviter, mais de vie et de mort, de ma vie, de mon avenir, de ma liberté, de ce qui se passe dans mon corps, qui peut être la vie ou rien et dont je suis responsable. »

Discussion will be led in French and moderated by a French native speaker. Level: Intermediate - Advanced (B1 and above)

IMPRESSIONISM AT Dallas Museum of Art
Thank y'all for joining us last weekend for the Impressionist Revolution's exhibition from Monet to Matisse, which was part of our new exciting courses at the Alliance Française de Dallas.

Bravo to all our students who showed their great French skills by describing impressionist masterpieces in French 😍
And bravo to their teacher Violaine 😁
Featuring nearly 90 works from the museum’s holdings, this exhibition marked the 150-year anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition. The Impressionist Revolution from Monet to Matisse explores the fascinating story of Impressionism from its birth in 1874 to its legacy in the early 20th century. Told almost entirely through the DMA's exceptional holdings, this exhibition reveals the rebellious origins of the independent artist collective known as the Impressionists and the revolutionary course they charted for modern art.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, one of the most significant movements in art history. 🖌️🖼️

On April 15, 1874, the first Impressionist exhibition opened its doors at 35 boulevard des Capucines, in Paris.
Thirty-one artists, including Monet, Renoir, Degas, Morisot, Pissarro, Sisley, and Cézanne, had gathered to hold their own art fair, outside the official Salon, in a declaration of independence that marked the birth of a groundbreaking art movement.

Many thanks to all students who joined our first art workshop led by the amazing Violaine last week! 🙏😍
