We are kicking off today's Hispanic Heritage Month highlights with our amazing new 6th-grade teacher, Ms. Parra! ๐ŸŒŸ

"I am Venezuelan; I studied Mechanical Engineering and completed an alternative certification to become a teacher in Texas. I decided to become a teacher to help Hispanic students receive instruction in their own language. As an educator, I work every day to help students believe in themselves and to let them know that they can achieve anything they set their minds to."

Thank you, Ms. Parra, for your dedication to empowering our Bobcats and ensuring they feel supported. We are so thrilled to welcome you to the Bayles family! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

To close out today's Hispanic Heritage Month highlights, we are proud to feature our wonderful inclusion teacher assistant, Ms. Hernandez! ๐ŸŒŸ

"I came to this country when I was 15 and attended North Dallas High School, where I graduated. I got married very young at 18, dedicated myself to my home, and had four children. I didn't work outside the home until my youngest child started school, dedicating all that time to raising them. Later, I started working in the cafeteria at my children's school, where I stayed for 8 years. When my youngest graduated from elementary school, I became a teacher assistant because I wanted to help children who, just like me, had arrived in a new country without knowing the language. I also wanted to support those whose parents had to work and might not have enough time to help with their schoolwork."

Thank you, Ms. Hernandez, for your incredible heart and for being such a compassionate, supportive presence for our students and their families. We are so grateful for everything you do for our Bobcats! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

For our second Hispanic Heritage Month highlight of the day, we are honored to feature our incredible 3rd-grade reading and writing teacher, Ms. Montoya! ๐Ÿ“šโœจ"

"My name is Micaela Montoya. I grew up in beautiful Mexico City, where the past, present, and future blend in an extraordinary way. There, I learned to feel proud of our great cultural wealth. Studying in several of its old libraries, a love for books developed in me from a very young age. I discovered my calling for teaching while working as a literacy educator, teaching older adults to read and write. I started working for the Dallas School District in the year 2000. I have tried to pass on the love for books and reading to all the students. I have had the privilege of teaching over the last 26 years. I know that I have made a positive impact on my students, knowing that several of my former students have already graduated from college and are citizens who actively contribute to our community."

Thank you, Ms. Montoya, for 26 years of dedication to education and for instilling a lifelong love of reading in our Bobcats. We are so lucky to have your passion and wisdom at Bayles! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

For our 6th day of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are proud to highlight our amazing art teacher, Ms. Aguirre!

"I am a first-generation Mexican American, artist, and bilingual educator. I am proud to share my love for all things art, design and print with my students. My neurodivergent son inspired me to make this world a better place for him, and children like him... Teaching Art gives me the opportunity to do that. I love helping children discover their creativity and helping them create artwork they can truly be proud of. I have always loved art. Making Art has always been therapeutic for me and I hope that being in the art classroom provides children a safe space for expression."

Thank you, Ms. Aguirre, for creating a safe, creative haven where every Bobcat can proudly express themselves!

To wrap up our Day 5 Hispanic Heritage Month highlights, let's celebrate our caring Pre-K 4 Teacher Assistant, Ms. Chairez! ๐ŸŒŸ

โ€œI have always chosen education because I wanted a career that allowed me to help people. I love helping kids discover their strengths and encourage them to work through the challenges they may face.
I want to continue to work with those that need the most support.
Not only do I love teaching and assisting my teacher, I love knowing that I am also a role model to those kids without one. My goal as an educator will remain to inspire my group of students to seek a love for learning for the rest of their lives.โ€

Thank you, Ms. Chairez, for providing such a nurturing foundation and being an incredible role model for our youngest learners every day! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

For our midday Hispanic Heritage Month highlight, let's celebrate our wonderful 1st-grade teacher, Mrs. Lawson (previously Ms. Solano)! ๐ŸŒŸ

โ€œI am Luciana, a Colombian teacher currently teaching first grade. I decided to be a teacher because I have always been passionate about accompanying children as they discover what they are capable of doing. As an educator, I want to create a classroom where every student feels loved, heard, and proud of their identity. I hope my students not only learn to read and solve problems, but also grow with the confidence to express their ideas and pursue their dreams.โ€

Thank you, Mrs. Lawson, for bringing so much heart to your classroom and empowering our youngest Bobcats to shine! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

For Day 5 of our Hispanic Heritage Month highlights, let's hear from our fantastic 2nd-grade teacher, Mr. Cantu:

โ€œMy name is Avelino Cantu, born in Mexico. I studied academically in the field of systems in Monterrey, then I moved to Texas with the alternative certification program for bilingual teachers. Becoming a teacher was never my goal, although I really enjoyed being able to help and explain things to others just for the sake of serving someone else. Later, as an elementary school teacher, I discovered the joy and pleasure of helping academically shape children who, in turn, unconditionally gave me their affection, respect, trust, and admiration. I arrived in 2005, and I still really enjoy my job. The impact I want to create on my students is for them to grow academically along with family values, to be polite, helpful, and grateful people, to respect whatever they do, and to never give up.โ€

Thank you, Mr. Cantu, for over two decades of dedication to our Bobcats! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

For our midday Hispanic Heritage Month highlight, let's celebrate our incredible Parent Support Specialist, Ms. Bahena! ๐ŸŒŸ

โ€œI am a proud Mexican American, deeply rooted in my culture and heritage. I hold a bachelorโ€™s degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington. My love for working with students and families led me to education. As a parent support specialist, I feel blessed to build meaningful relationships, bridge language barriers, and advocate for our Bayles families. I want every family to know their voice matters and their involvement in their childrenโ€™s lives is invaluable. I have always believed that if I can make even the smallest difference in someoneโ€™s life, I am doing what I was meant to do.โ€

Thank you, Ms. Bahena, for being such a powerful bridge between our school and homes, and for ensuring every family feels valued and supported!

For Day 4 of our Hispanic Heritage Month highlights, let's hear from Ms. Yolanda Mendez, whose deep passion for helping our students master reading and writing is truly unmatched.

โ€œNine years ago, I made it my mission to support the Latino community in the United States and I landed at Bayles. I believe that to have a healthy society, we must start by educating children who are academically and emotionally healthy. Throughout nearly nine years as a teacher, I have had the privilege of listening to stories of incredible resilience from both my students and their parents. Life is simple, and the last thing I want for them is to make it complicated out of ignorance. Because of this, I remain here as an educator.โ€

Thank you, Ms. Mendez, for your unwavering heart and dedication to our students! Give her a huge shoutout today!
