Congratulations to Dr. Janille Smith-Colin on being selected as a recipient of the 2026-27 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award.

This prestigious recognition reflects Dr. Smith-Colin’s leadership in transportation systems research and her commitment to advancing engineering solutions that improve safety, accessibility and community well-being on a global scale. Through her Fulbright project in Kingston, Jamaica, she will explore how urban roadway design impacts mobility and quality of life while introducing the Safe Systems Approach into engineering education and professional practice.

Her work exemplifies the kind of globally engaged, socially impactful research that defines the SMU Lyle School of Engineering. We are proud to see Dr. Smith-Colin representing SMU and collaborating with international partners to help shape safer, more resilient transportation systems for the future.
