You might know Pi Day, but did you know today is Tau Day? While pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, tau is the ratio of circumference to the radius.

Tau may not be as popular as pi, but some mathematicians argue that focusing on the radius fits the fundamental properties of a circle better than the diameter, used by pi.

We’re just sad we’re not celebrating Tau Day with actual pie.

Most colleges require your SAT or ACT scores. Some students find one easier than the other, so they should focus their test prep on that specific test (or whichever one they hate the least).

Happy first day of summer! Time to enjoy the break from school and plan for the next year. If you have a student in high school (or already in it), now's a good time to orient yourself on testing. Here's a simplified prep timeline:

8th Grade - Take challenging classes and read. A lot. Don't stress about test prep just yet.
9th Grade - Focus on adjusting to high school and earning good grades (your transcript is more important than test scores). Still don't worry about test prep.
10th Grade - Take the PSAT and a practice ACT to get a feel for them. Focus mostly on college research. Prep over the summer if your PSAT score is close to National Merit recognition.
11th Grade - Now comes the real test prep. Choose between the SAT and ACT, then study leading up to a convenient exam date. Take another test later if you need. Continue researching and choosing colleges.
12th Grade - Last time to take the test before sending out college applications. Focus on college applications and financial aid. Graduate, exhale, then celebrate! Don't forget to pack for college.

On June 17, 1901, the College Board administered its first standardized college entrance exam. That test evolved into what we now know as the SAT.
