🌟OBJECT AND SOUND BOXES🌟
How do you start the montessori learning journey with your child? Naturally, we begin with the alphabet. In Montessori, we do not teach the name of the letters, rather we teach the sound the letters make. One way we do this is with object and sound boxes. Object and sound boxes not only teach sound association, but they also build vocabulary through association of names with objects.
For example, for the letter "A" we would not put "airplane" as an object, instead we would want "apple, axe, ant, armadillo, etc."
📍How to make these boxes yourself:
*we don't want to have more than 4 sounds (letters) in one box*
- write the lowercase letter on a card
- find small objects around your home or cut them out of magazines
- have your child trace the letter on the card with their finger. If you have a textured material to make the shape out of, that is a plus! We use tape with the texture of fine sandpaper
- have your child match the sounds with the corresponding letters
