Ms. Morningstar’s students learned to work together today to come to a decision on the best name for our class pet...

Students in science had to use the scientific method to decide on the single best name for our fish.

In social studies, students participated in a constitutional convention to represent their chosen names, narrow down their lists through compromise and collaboration, and present a single name in a floor speech to persuade fellow delegates to vote for their chosen name. There was tears and laughter, students learned to make concessions and to defend their ideas with evidence and reasoning and in the end we have a clear winner.

Mrs. Mills and Ms. Annie’s class spent the week getting to know each other and building a wonderful classroom community to learn and grow this year! They explained themselves using numbers only in math, had a book tasting for Ela to see what books everyone enjoys reading, made a map of their personal communities, and tried to build the tallest tower in science while working as a team. Watch out SPMS because this class is the best team around after this week!

Ms. Morningstar’s class invites you to walk a mile in their shoes... yesterday students built community by designing a shoe that represents them. They shared their work today with the class.
