Every journey begins with a story. 🧳✈️
Sometimes travel takes us across the country.

Sometimes across the world.
And sometimes, the biggest journey is the one that changes how we see ourselves.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Arts District Toastmasters is packing our curiosity and exploring the theme of TRAVEL.
New places.
New perspectives.
Unexpected stories.

And maybe a few lessons we didn’t know we were bringing home.
Where has travel taken you — and what did you discover along the way?

We don’t perform perfectly. We practice [speaking] courageously.

See you there. 😉

Big Tex may have the fairgrounds, but today Arts District Toastmasters brought the State Fair energy to the meeting.
🎡🌽🎤

Big personalities. Bold stories. Plenty of laughter. And a little friendly competition.

Just like the State Fair of Texas, Toastmasters is better when you show up, try something new, and enjoy the experience.

And by this video… the spirit of the fair was definitely alive and well. 😄

Thanks Evee.

Some of us are unsubscribing from hustle culture.
Some of us are still hustling… very fastidiously. 😄

At today’s Arts District Toastmasters meeting, we explored what it means to step away from the idea that constant motion equals progress.

Our Word of the Day was fastidious — showing great attention to detail.

Honestly, that may be the sweet spot.
Less frantic.
Less performative busyness.
More intentionality.
More care.
More attention to what actually matters.

Maybe the goal isn’t to stop striving.
Maybe it’s to stop confusing exhaustion with excellence.
Some members may still be hustling.
Others are officially unsubscribed. 😂

Either way, we’re practicing courageously — and apparently, doing it fastidiously.

Leadership does not wait for the title. It shows up in how you communicate, influence, collaborate, and help others succeed.

On October 1, District 50 Toastmasters Masterclass Series explores how Toastmasters builds leaders before they ever hold the title.

Join Oscar Carter for an interactive conversation about the people skills that make leadership visible long before a role or position makes it official.

Thursday, October 1, 2026 | 7:00 PM CDT | Virtual via Zoom

Remember...
The title may come later. The leadership starts now.

🎨 The Art of Speaking | No. 9
Your Opening Makes a Promise

The first thirty seconds answer one question for every audience:
"Why should I keep listening?"

Skip the housekeeping.
Start with curiosity.
Ask a thoughtful question.
Share an unexpected fact.
Tell a short story.
Give people a reason to lean in.

Try this: Rewrite the first sentence of your next presentation three different ways before choosing your favorite.

The payoff: Strong openings capture attention—and attention is where every great presentation begins.

Communication is an art. Like every art, it improves with practice.
We're always excited to help others discover the art of speaking at Arts District Toastmasters Dallas Texas

In case you missed it....

Arts District Toastmasters Club had its Speaker Showcase yesterday, September 29, 2026.

⛳ David Guinan led the group with the theme "The Game of Golf — “Drive to Grow.” 🏌🏾‍♀️

Unfortunately many thought the flyer was a golf fundraiser tournament. For that reason, several people missed out on a few amazing, continuously practicing speakers. (NO ONE is perfect.)

By the way, the golfers [aka speakers] were:
Oscar Carter
Dale McKnight
Lametra Off
Lyn Fountain

The respective marshals [aka evaluators] were:
Yodit Weldegeorgise
CJ Horton
leo-shuxiong Wu
Gabrielle Beasley

We would love to thank our members, speakers, helpers and evaluators.

🚦 Timer - Jennifer Hoch
🔄 Vote Counter - Gabrielle Beasley

🥇 Best Speaker - Lyn Fountain
🥇 Best Evaluator - Gabrielle Beasley

We love our guests. Thank you Tara L. Aldridge for showing up and joining the meeting. Thank you Yodit Weldegeorgise for joining the meeting and being an evaluator.

Next week, our own Lametra Off will facilitate Foundations of Adult Learning for the District 50 ToastmastersTrainer Program.

One idea will sit underneath the entire session:
Effective learning begins when we design for the learner, not simply for the delivery.

The question is not only, “What do I need to teach?”
It is also, “What does the learner need in order to learn, use, and remember this?”

Lametra Off looks forward to an interactive session centered on relevance, participation, reflection, practice, and application.

🎨 The Art of Speaking | No. 8
Confidence Doesn't Mean Never Making Mistakes

Even experienced speakers lose their place.
Forget a word.
Skip a slide.

What separates them isn't perfection.
It's recovery.
Smile.
Take a breath.
Continue.

Most audiences forget the mistake within seconds.
They'll remember how confidently you handled it.

The payoff: You'll spend less time fearing mistakes and more time connecting with your audience.

Communication is an art. Like every art, it improves with practice.
If you've ever wanted a safe place to practice public speaking, we'd love to have you visit Arts District Toastmasters Dallas Texas
