A Prior Written Notice(PWN) is required when the school district proposes or refuses:
*to change your child's identification, evaluation, or placement
*to provide a free and appropriate public education
*to initiate or change your child's individualized education plan(IEP)
A Prior Written Notice should include:
*A description of the action being proposed or refused
*An explanation of why the action is being proposed or refused
*A description of any evaluation, assessment, or report as the basis
*A copy of the procedural safeguards
*Information on how to contact resources for assistance in understanding the procedural safeguards
*A description of the options considered by the ARD committee and why they were rejected, changed, or proposed
*A description of the factors considered in the district's proposal or refusal
