Big thank you to SMU Law alumna, SMU Law Adjunct Professor, and Justice Dennise Garcia ('93) of the Texas Fifth Court of Appeals for swearing in our law students before they embark on their clinics!! Beginning in 1947, the Clinical Program at SMU Law was among the country’s first to sponsor a community legal clinic. Today, it remains a national model of excellence. The program encompasses 11 specialized clinics where, supervised by clinic directors, our students serve as advocates on behalf of real clients in many areas of the law.

SMU Law Dean Jennifer Collins is excited to follow in Southern Methodist University's “long tradition of sending folks off to presidencies” as she will become the next president of Rhodes College on July 1, 2022. During her time as dean, Dedman Law has nearly doubled the diversity of its entering classes while increasing the median LSAT score and GPA of entering students. Three new academic centers that launched under her leadership – the Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center, the Tsai Center for Law, Science and Innovation, and the Robert B. Rowling Center for Business Law & Leadership - have significantly broadened opportunities for our law students. We are thrilled for her, but will miss her deeply! https://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/2021/12/07/smu-law-school-dean-to-become-next-president-of-rhodes-college/
