We are incredibly proud to congratulate the amazing ESL students from The Storehouse Community Center who were the first to graduate from the highest level of English classes, Level 105! 🌟

Learning a new language is no easy feat, and each of these dedicated individuals has shown immense perseverance, hard work, and commitment. Their journey has been filled with challenges, but their determination to improve their lives and achieve their goals has been truly inspiring.

To all the graduates, your achievement is a testament to your strength and resilience. We can't wait to see what incredible things you will accomplish next! 💪

Thank you to everyone who has supported our students along the way. Together, The Storehouse Community Center and Aspire are creating a community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

We continue to be inspired by The Storehouse Community Center for opening their doors to every student who values learning as a gateway to a better life.

Thank you to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for our 2024 family literacy grant! Funding received will support our Early Childhood Education and Family Literacy Program.

This program allows adult students attending Aspire classes to enroll their children 2 to 5 years old in our ECE program, where our little learners study the building blocks of English and develop important motor skills. Parents also get the opportunity to learn how to take a hands-on role in their child’s academic growth.

The Aspire (formerly LIFT and Aberg Center for Literacy) staff would like to take a moment to recognize the incredible legacy of Pat Peiser.

Pat was a founding member of LIFT and a pillar in the Greater Dallas community. Her leadership with the NCJW Greater Dallas championed literacy, welfare, and health services.

She has left an impressionable mark on countless lives, and her dedication and passion continue to inspire us.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 💚

We had the chance to open up the conversation about mental health in our ESL classrooms. Our students learned vocabulary they can use to communicate their needs and feelings and discussed ways they can prioritize their mental well-being.

It is not always easy to prioritize mental health when moving to a new country and learning a new language.

That's why it's important to us to create a supportive environment where everyone in our classrooms can openly ask questions and advocate for their needs.

Just as literacy is the foundation of learning, mental health is the foundation of well-being. We believe both are essential in the pursuit of turning obstacles into opportunities.

That’s a wrap for our winter ESL classes! 🎬

We continued our tradition of a Recognition Ceremony to celebrate each of our students’ progress.

It’s never easy to start something new, but we’re inspired by the dedication of each person who walks through our doors day in and day out to pursue their goal of learning another language. 🗨️

Thank you to our incredible volunteers who have shown up for our students week after week. Their unwavering commitment to creating a supportive learning environment has played an essential role in the success and growth of our students. 🎉

Our team at Aspire is thrilled to share that our backpack extravaganza was a success!

Altrusa International of Downtown Dallas, Inc. volunteered with Aspire to assemble 80 backpacks filled with essential school supplies for our Early Childhood Education and Family Literacy Program. 🎒

The day was filled with smiles and determination as volunteers worked tirelessly, knowing their efforts would have a tangible impact on those in our community.

Aligned with Aspire's goals, this dedicated group of volunteers focuses on pressing issues such as hunger, homelessness, and low-literacy while providing vital assistance to hardship survivors.

Happy World Storytelling Day! 📖

At Aspire, we're passionate about unlocking what literacy can do for our students, and storytelling has the power to enrich lives.

For adults learning English or honing their literacy skills, storytelling allows them to connect with others and express themselves freely.

We are privileged to walk alongside our students as they build confidence in their reading and writing abilities.

Photos from Aspire's post 03/19/2024

Do you know anyone interested in improving their reading and writing skills? Help us spread the word! 📢

Our spring cohort for our SEE program kicks off on April 1st!

Anyone interested can call us at 214-824-2000 or fill out a form at https://www.aspiretolearn.org/interest-form.

Who is our SEE program for? 🤔

The program serves adults who need specific instruction because of visual or auditory processing differences. SEE students study the English alphabet with a complete sensory review of each letter. Hearing, seeing, speaking, and writing with repetition allow students to fully comprehend language foundations.

Happy International Women's Day!

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of incredible women all around the world.

We want to recognize one woman in particular: Dr. Linda K. Johnson. She has left a legacy at Aspire, one the entire team will continue to drive forward.

At her memorial, she received an incredible resolution from District 1 Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Theresa Daniel.

The mark she's left on us, the organization, and everyone she has impacted will stay with us forever.

03/07/2024

To our Aspire Community,

Due to the unexpected passing of our esteemed President and CEO, Dr. Linda Johnson, whose vision, leadership, and dedication were instrumental in guiding Aspire toward its mission, the Aspire Board of Directors has appointed Paul DiBiase as Aspire's Interim President and CEO effective February 21, 2024.

Paul has been a pivotal member of our organization for three years, serving as Aspire's Chief Development Officer, demonstrating strong leadership qualities and a deep understanding of our mission and values. Paul brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked in the North Texas nonprofit sector for twelve years with education and social service organizations. His strategic insight, commitment to excellence, and dedication to our cause make him an ideal candidate to lead Aspire during this transitional period. He will focus on maintaining our momentum, delivering exceptional results, and positioning Aspire for continued success.

Paul will continue to serve Aspire as the Chief Development Officer. In connection with this transition, the Board has already formed a search committee that will lead the efforts to address and fill Aspire's permanent leadership needs. This process includes engaging a leading executive search firm to assist in a comprehensive process, with both internal and external candidates being considered.

We extend our condolences to Dr. Johnson's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Let us unite as a community to support one another and carry forward the torch of excellence Dr. Johnson lit.

Please join us in congratulating Paul on his new role and offering him your full support as we embark on this new chapter in Aspire's journey.

Another successful SEE Recognition Ceremony is in the books! 🥳

Last week we held our winter ceremony for an incredible group of students. Our SEE program serves adults who need specific instruction because of visual or auditory processing differences. The classes are taught by dedicated and trained Aspire volunteer instructors who follow a special curriculum created by June Shelton School & Evaluation Center.

We take immense pride in every student who bravely embraces the challenge of learning to read and write.

Taking on a new journey is never easy, but our students continue striving to enhance the quality of their lives and attain their goals. 🎉

To our Aspire community,

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our esteemed President and C.E.O., Linda Koscso Johnson.

Linda played a pivotal role in Aspire’s success, leading with vision, dedication, and passion for literacy and adult education. Her impact on our organization is immeasurable, leaving an indelible mark on employees, partners, volunteers, students, and board members.

If it’s true that the measure of a person’s life is valued not by how much they love but, instead, by how much others love them, then the value of Linda Johnson’s life was indeed immeasurable.

The Aspire family will honor Linda’s memory and continue her incredible legacy.

A celebration of her life will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1305 Damascus Road, Rockwall, Texas, on Wednesday, February 28, at 2 p.m.

Linda and her family request that any donations in her name be made to: Aspire (formerly LIFT and the Aberg Center for Literacy) at https://ow.ly/hij350QHVP4 or by mail at P.O. Box 570159, Dallas, TX 75357.
