Mentor of the Week - Jotrellia Murret ๐๐คฉ๐ฅณ๐โ๏ธ
This is my fourth year in the program.
I absolutely love the connections I have made with my kiddos. I think I have had the very best kids to mentor and they always bring joy to my days. It is so awesome to have a kid not your own be excited to see you and spend time with you. I have truly loved the experience.
We don't always get to see how our meetings affect these kids but the more we visit and the closer we draw to them it's clear we are indeed making a difference in their lives. That's important to me.
Advice for new mentors? Keep showing up for your mentee! It may seem tough at first to really dig in and get to know your kiddo but just keep showing up and giving them your most authentic you. They always appreciate having someone there who just keeps it real. Always keep in mind you are there for THEM and as long as they know that you will be great.
In the past my mentee always loved playing card games with me, especially UNO. I always suggest a few things and let them choose their favorite. This year my mentee just enjoys showing me different toys he really likes and I enjoy just chatting with him about whatever toy interests him. Somehow our conversations always evolve into how his life is going. It's really about connecting with them on their level and meeting them wherever they are.
๐ฅฐJotrellia, thank you for your investment in the district and this program. You're appreciated!

Mentor of the Week - Gina Kaufman ๐๐ฅณ๐บ๐ป๐ฅ
1.) I believe Iโve been mentoring for 4 years (but maybe 5โฆ;)
2.) My favorite thing about mentoring is watching them grow! What a blessing it is to be a tiny part of their beautiful young lives.
3.) I have kept mentoring for that very reason. I canโt think of anything that could be more worthwhile than investing in our children. They are the future, after all!
4.) My advice to new mentors would be to not stress about things to do with the children. They seem to be happy to tell you want they like to do and figuring out how to spend the time together is part of the process.
5.) Playing Uno has been a favorite for my Mentee.
