More photos documenting the damage.

No matter what we did to secure the buildings, they repeatedly found ways to get back inside, causing additional damage and stealing whatever they could.

We initially had to shut down because drug paraphernalia was left inside the facility, creating an unsafe environment for the children and staff. But the situation continued to escalate. Ultimately, the repeated break-ins, theft, vandalism, and destruction resulted in more than $100,000 in damages and contributed to us having to close our business indefinitely.

On top of the damage itself, we were fined by Code Compliance four separate times. We repeatedly reached out to city officials for help, but our concerns were ignored or dismissed. We were even told by others that there was nothing they could do and that we were solely responsible for the damages to our own property.

That is incredibly difficult to accept when we were the victims of repeated break-ins, theft, vandalism, and destruction.

This was not simply a homeless encampment. This situation directly affected our ability to operate, created an unsafe environment for children and staff, caused significant financial losses, and ultimately contributed to the closure of our business.

We are not asking for anyone to ignore people experiencing homelessness. We are asking city officials to acknowledge what happened to our business and the very real consequences we have been left to deal with.

We have documented the damage. We have reported what happened. We have asked for help. And we are still waiting for someone to listen.

This was NOT simply a homeless encampment.

My daycare business was significantly impacted by the people who were living behind my facility. What started as people occupying the area escalated into repeated break-ins, theft, property damage, stripping wiring and other materials from the building, and eventually people sleeping inside my daycare facility.

The damage and theft directly affected my ability to operate my business and created serious financial and operational losses.

I have repeatedly tried to get city officials to understand the full scope of what happened, but I feel like my concerns are being reduced to an issue of homelessness. That is not the whole story.

This was a situation involving property damage, theft, vandalism, trespassing, and significant business interruption. I am not asking anyone to ignore the needs of people experiencing homelessness. I am asking for my business and the damage done to it to be acknowledged and taken seriously.

I am not going to stop advocating for myself, my business, my employees, or the families we serve until someone is willing to listen and understand the impact this situation has had on us.

My business suffered real losses. My property was damaged. My ability to operate was affected. And I deserve to have that acknowledged.
