Kyokushin Karate is famous for being one of the “harder sub-styles of Karate.

Kyokushin kumite allows kicks against an opponent's head, body and legs. ... It also allows knee strikes and punches to an opponent's body.

Earlier this week, we talked briefly about Kata and Kihon. Now, let's mention full-contact kumite. Sosai disagrees with the practice of controlled striking in kuminte. He believed you actually had to hit the target; you never truly know if your technique works or if you can withstand a hit yourself.
KYOKUSHIN, which translates to the ultimate truth. In this case, the truth is the reality. In Kyokushinkai, full contact is about verification. It verifies that your technique works. It verifies your body is strong, and it verifies that your spirit will not break when things get hard. OSU

Why Kihon (Basics) Is EVERYTHING in Kyokushin!
Kihon Waza, the fundamentals of Kyokushin, isn't just a warm-up—it's the bedrock of our art.
Mas Oyama said it best: If Kumite is the conversation, then Kihon is the alphabet!

Pure Power: Develops the muscle memory and correct body mechanics needed to generate true Kime (focus/power) in every punch and kick.

Instant Reflexes: Perfects your automatic reactions so you can execute techniques correctly and instantly during full-contact Kumite.

Discipline: Builds the mental focus and perseverance that defines a true Kyokushin fighter.

"Think of karate as a language – the Kihon (basics) can be thought of as the letters of the alphabet, the Kata (forms) will be the equivalent of words and sentences, and the Kumite (fighting) will be analogous to conversations." Sosai Mas Oyama

Why Kata is Non-Negotiable in Kyokushin!
Think Kyokushin is only Kumite? Think again! Kata is the engine that drives our fighting power.

Muscle Memory: Builds the precise, automatic techniques you need under pressure.

True Power: Low stances and Ibuki breathing forge intense full-body strength and focus.

The Blueprint: It's the dictionary for Kumite—teaching you how to link powerful techniques.

Mindset: Trains the discipline and concentration (Mushin) of a true warrior.

Don't just fight hard. Train smart. Polish your Kata! Osu!

Incorporating Standing Mokuso, or standing meditation, before kata practice can significantly enhance focus and performance. This mindful preparation helps clear the mind, allowing practitioners to connect deeply with their movements. In fast-paced work environments, adopting such practices can lead to improved concentration and overall productivity. Consider integrating meditation into your routine for better performance.
