Providing dyslexia support through teacher training, student therapy, and assessments.

05/25/2026

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice is the reason we have the freedom to learn, grow, and support the next generation.

At Dyscoveread Dyslexia Services, we are grateful for that freedom, and we do not take it lightly. Every child we help is part of the future they fought to protect.

Today, we remember. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

When teaching or training in Take Flight, I always ask myself… (fill in the blank)

If you want one, come see us this summer at the literacy institute at Region 10 or come (in person) to one of our many trainings!

Reading struggles are not just about reading.
They are about how the brain processes language.

That is why some children:
β€’ Struggle to connect sounds to letters
β€’ Have trouble decoding new words
β€’ Get frustrated with spelling and writing

It is not a lack of effort. It is a difference in how their brain processes language.

And here is the part most people miss:
More reading practice alone will not fix it.

If the foundation is weak, the gap only grows.

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month, which makes it the perfect time to understand what is really going on and what actually helps.

Our latest blog breaks it down in a way every parent should read.

I had a trainee ask this just last week...
Not (k) (au) (l) (t), but (k) (short a) (l) (t) because it is an acronym, not a word. The (short a) is the sound found in academic!

When a child struggles with reading, it is easy to think they just need to try harder.

But most of the time, that is not the issue.
Struggling readers are often dealing with challenges like decoding, fluency, or comprehension, not a lack of effort.

The good news? Small, consistent habits at home can make a real difference.

βœ” Set a simple daily reading routine
βœ” Focus on accuracy, not speed
βœ” Let your child choose what they read
βœ” Model reading at home

You do not have to be a reading expert to support your child.
Sometimes, the right approach makes all the difference. πŸ’›
