University of North Georgia faculty and staff release an award-winning album featuring new music on the last year of Abraham Lincoln's life UNG Department of Music faculty member David Peoples composed an hour-long extended work for music performance titled 'A Final Year for President Lincoln.' The composition has reached an international stage and was awarded a silver medal by the Global Music Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Contemporary Classical Composition.

The album includes performances by Dr. Benjamin Schoening, voice; Michael Brown, trumpet; Dr. Philip Snyder, guitar; Dr. Adam Frey, euphonium; Dr. Steven Walker, percussion; Dr. Bart Walters, saxophone; Dr. Shannon Gilstrap (English) narrator; Dr. Jovana Damnjanović, flute; Cherri Helms, narrator; and Dr. David Peoples, piano.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the UNG Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present an evening of music featuring pieces that represent the spirit of gratitude. One of the highlights of the program will be Maslanka’s monumental work, Give Us This Day. Also featured on the program is highlights from John Williams’ soundtrack Catch Me If You Can featuring UNG faculty soloist Dr. Bart Walters on Alto Saxophone. The evening will conclude with a favorite for low brass, Them Basses which celebrates its centennial as it was completed in 1924. This classic march will be played by the combination of both bands. The members of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic band are UNG undergraduates representing a wide variety of majors. Both ensembles are under the direction of Dr. J. Ashley Jarrell. Admission is free for this 7:30 p.m. concert which will take place in the Dawson County Performing Arts Center 1665 Perimeter Rd. Dawsonville, GA 30534.
