April 23rd Update!!!

Sirs and Ma’ams,

On Monday Governor Kemp gave some businesses the option to reopen on Friday, April 24. Our business falls into that category.

The order from the governor includes some guidelines that must be followed but a full list of requirements has not been issued.

At this time we do not feel comfortable enough to reopen. But that will change once we gather a better understanding of the requirements and alter some procedures at our physical locations.

We will continue to conduct our Zoom classes for the time being.

Our hope is to be able to reopen our physical locations sometime around May 12, but that is currently a tentative date. We will be carefully monitoring how this rollout of openings affects all of us in Georgia.

We are fully aware that some members will be willing to train at our locations and others will not. So each location will come up with a schedule that includes both virtual and in-person classes.

We have much to work through before reopening our locations in a safe and prudent manner and are choosing to err on the side of caution. Once we are ready to open our locations we will communicate exactly what is needed from TONCHU staff and members alike in order to make this work.

Thank you for your support during these crazy times. The virtual classes have been very successful with attendance rates equal and sometimes greater than our in-person classes. We were able to complete both Under Black Belt testing and our Black Belt Yudanja.

Stay safe!

Sirs and Ma’ams,

Schedules for this week are ready. You will receive an email today from your location with the schedule and user instructions. You will also receive an email before March 31 that includes the full virtual schedule moving forward.

We are very excited about using this technology to deliver an outstanding experience during this period of disruption.

March 19th Update!

Sirs and Ma’ams,

This morning we all received the news that the city of Atlanta will require the closing of
several types of establishments including gyms. While no TONCHU facilities are located
within the city limits, it seems just a matter of time before Cobb, Dekalb and Gwinnett
counties follow suit. In light of the current situation and with details changing very
quickly, we will be closing all TONCHU physical locations after Under Black Belt testing on Saturday afternoon and transitioning to virtual training starting Tuesday.

This week we have been conducting Under Black Belt testing with limited numbers of
students in order to reduce the size of testing classes this weekend. During the week,
we have been beta testing our virtual classes. We also ran an actual belt test for a Blue
uniform student this morning that was very successful (for the technology and the
student as well!). We are confident the virtual classes will be high quality with excellent
instruction and physical activity. Will there be glitches and a learning curve for instructors, students and parents? No doubt. That is why we will be starting our first wave of virtual classes with our most experienced students on Tuesday, March 24. We will continue to add classes for lower ranks and hope to have all levels on board by Tuesday, March 31.

What does this mean for you?

Under Black-Belt testing candidates:

If you have registered for testing this weekend and would like to test at your location,
please do so.

If you have registered for testing this weekend but do not feel comfortable testing at your location, please email your location so a virtual test can be scheduled.

If you have not registered for testing but would like to schedule a virtual test, please
email your location.

If you have already tested, Congratulations!

You will receive instructions via email from your location as your virtual class start date
approaches.

Yudanja candidates:

It appears highly unlikely we will be holding the event at the Marriott Evergreen Resort.
But you will be testing! Keep watching the videos and be sure to PRACTICE on your
own for the next few days. We will either conduct testing with small groups at our
physical locations or test virtually. We can’t possibly predict what the guidelines and
restrictions will look like in 4 weeks. Virtual classes for Yudanja candidates will begin on Tuesday, March 24. You will receive instructions via email from your location before Tuesday.

Instructors will be conducting testing the rest of this weekend and will most likely be
unavailable for phone calls.
Please communicate using email.

please email your location to ensure we have your proper address on file.

***IMPORTANT MESSAGE****

We Care about Protecting this Community

Sirs and Ma’ams,

Amidst growing concerns for the spread of germs and illness, we want to reach out to our TONCHU family and reassure you that we have always and will always continue to work to keep TONCHU a clean and safe environment for our students, instructors, and guests. We are committed to putting your health and well-being first.
While we will continue to offer regularly scheduled classes for the time being, we want to reassure you we are taking every precaution necessary.

Our goal is to be a beacon in the dark, a place of safe harbor, a place of stability and normalcy.

We stand ready to do so until a government entity tells us otherwise.

We are following the recommendations of the CDC related to the control of the virus:

• We use antibacterial cleaning solution to sanitize our mats, kicking bags, kicking paddles, weapons, etc. on a daily basis. This has always been the case due to the nature of our business.

• We thoroughly clean our floors every day with a bleach and/or Lysol solution.

Due to increased concern and worry, we are taking the following extra precautions to ensure the safety of our students, instructors and guests:

Tonchu staff has:

• Started wiping down all surfaces in lobby areas including countertops, seating, shoe cubbies, door handles/knobs and everything that is touched on a daily basis.

• We will be sanitizing the mat after each class. This will result in slightly shorter class times.

Working as a team, you can take the following precautions to keep you and your community safe:

• If you’re sick at all, please stay at home and practice at home if you can.
• Wash your hands regularly
• Cough or sneeze into your arm, not your hands or into the air
• Do your part and clean your gear and weapons after each use.
• Alert your instructor if you or your child would prefer not to receive hands-on assists in class.
• Stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet.

Don't "Sweat it Out"
We get it. Sometimes a good workout makes everything better, but if you or your child is possibly sick, congested, or just feeling a little "under the weather," please stay home. Thank you for your help in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for your fellow students.

March Testing:
Currently, testing in March will remain on schedule. However, if a student cannot attend class or testing due to illness or for other safety precautions, we will make other arrangements for testing and/or offer alternative testing dates in the near future as needed to accommodate you. While we feel it is important for our students to continue to thrive in their martial arts practice, the health and safety of our students is our priority.

Yudanja Testing:
We have 4+ weeks remaining before Yudanja. Our sincere hope is to be able to conduct the event in a safe environment at that time. None of us knows what will unfold in the next few weeks. If it is prudent to postpone Yudanja to a later date we will do so working with our partners at the Marriott Evergreen Resort. Everything is in flux at the moment and we are assessing things on a daily basis.

Finally, we want you to know that TONCHU Martial Arts is committed to doing its part to help curtail the spread of this virus and maintain the health and safety of our community as best as we can while also maintaining your individual martial arts practice. We encourage all students to continue to practice at home if you cannot attend class by simply logging on and using our instructional videos. If you do not know the login or password for your level, please call your location.

We will continue to share updates in class or on our website and page if things change so please check back regularly. Stay safe!
