5th graders celebrated the end of their Grammar School years with a capstone trip to the ATL! They spent the day exploring so many Atlanta favorites like Mercedes-Benz stadium, Centennial Olympic Park, SkyView ferris wheel, World of Coca-Cola, the Varsity, and a Braves game! It was a memorable day together and they are ready to enter the Upper School!

We had a new Head of School yesterday, Mr. Davenport. 😉 He greeted students at carpool, led liturgies in chapel, drank “coffee” with Mr. Baker, wrote and signed a memo to teachers (giving them a dress down day, they were grateful 💛), and got a Chick-fil-A lunch! It was a busy and productive day!

*Thanks to the Davenports for bidding on this “Head of School” item at our Soring Celebration & Silent Auction!

Spring Vesper is a night of remembering and celebrating all that our students have learned throughout the school year. Singing, recitations, skits and handbells were all part of this year’s performances.

Our 2 big school awards were also given out. Our Nathanael Awards went to:
Victoria, Lower School
Oliver, Upper School
(The Nathanael Award recognizes a student’s exceptional character, curiosity, and conviction).
Our Archer Award went to:
Valeria, Upper School
(The Archer Awards recognizes a student’s commitment and persistence through adversity).

Congratulations to these students and to everyone for another great year at Oak Hill!

We want to give a big welcome to our new Dean of Students, Mr. Ethan Corder!

Ethan is a proud husband to Emily and father to Collins and August. He holds a master’s degree in divinity from the Candler School of Theology and a BS in psychology with a minor in religious studies from Georgia Southern University. Ethan is passionate about education and biblical studies with over five years of ministry experience at different churches and Christian media ministries. Ethan loves to read, write, and spend time outdoors camping and fishing with his family. In his role as Dean of Students at OHCS, Ethan will serve the parents, teachers, and student body by coordinating student events, building student and school culture, and teaching.

We asked him:
📚What is currently bringing you joy?
What’s currently bringing me joy is raising a growing family with my wife, Emily, getting more involved in serving in our community and church, and of course joining Oak Hill!

📚What scripture is encouraging to you right now?
One scripture that has been so important for me over the last months and years has been 1st Peter 5:6-7: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he might exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

📚What is one book you would reread and why?
I’m currently rereading “Lord of the Rings” because I found it to be difficult on my first read-through when I was a bit younger... on this second time through, I’m enjoying it much more!

📚What excites you most about joining the Oak Hill community?
What excites me most about joining Oak Hill is being back in an environment of education and learning. I truly love learning and helping others learn, so I’m looking forward to coming alongside each student at Oak Hill and helping them on their lifelong journey of education.

We are so thankful to have Mr. Corder on staff and hope you can meet him soon!
