The Arete Scholars Advisory Board plays a vital role in expanding educational opportunities for students and families across Georgia and Louisiana. Their leadership, expertise, and belief in our mission make our work possible.

Today, we’re excited to spotlight Joe Giglio, a Louisiana Advisory Board Member who brings nearly five decades of legal experience and a lifelong commitment to serving his community. Throughout his career, Joe has been involved with organizations across Acadiana, including One Acadiana, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Foundation, Hospice of Acadiana Foundation, and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Joe supports Arete because he believes every child deserves access to a quality education, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. Having been fortunate to receive a good education himself, he understands the difference that opportunity can make in a young person’s life and is passionate about helping provide that same opportunity to others.

Hispanic American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the stories and experiences that strengthen our communities, and Naolin's story is one we are proud to share.

Through an Arete scholarship, Naolin attends Mercy Christian Academy, where he has rediscovered a genuine love of learning. Whether he is entering his school's Hispanic Heritage Poster Contest or diving into a book report on Bahrain, he is curious, growing, and coming alive in the classroom.

His mom Faith says it best: 'Thanks again to Arete for making this possible so he can continue to grow in his love for learning.'

Eight children. One family. And a mother who fought to find the right school for every single one of them.

For Kimberly, an Arete scholarship has meant so much more than tuition help. It has meant watching her sons get the support they needed to overcome dyslexia. It has meant watching her daughters step into leadership. It has meant knowing that each of her children is in a place where they are seen, challenged, and encouraged to grow.

Six of her children are currently receiving Arete scholarships. Two have already graduated. And Kimberly says she has seen firsthand what educational choice can do for a family when it is truly available to them.

At Arete, our Alumni Board plays an important role in helping us stay connected to the scholars and graduates who have been part of our community. Their experiences, perspectives, and continued commitment to the Arete mission help us strengthen our alumni community and create meaningful opportunities for graduates to stay engaged.

Our Alumni Board is made up of Arete alumni who understand firsthand the impact of educational opportunity. From sharing their experiences and serving as mentors to helping us build connections and inspire the next generation of scholars, these graduates continue to make a difference long after their time as Arete Scholars.

We are grateful for the leadership and passion our Alumni Board brings to Arete. Their stories remind us that the impact of an Arete scholarship does not end at graduation. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in an environment where they can thrive, and for Devin, that opportunity is helping him discover just how much he can accomplish.

With the support of an Arete scholarship, Devin has been able to grow academically while pursuing his passions and becoming an active part of his school community. His journey is a reminder of what can happen when students have access to an education that meets their needs, encourages their strengths, and gives them room to grow.

Stories like Devin’s are why we do this work. When families have access to the right school and the right opportunities, students can build confidence, discover their passions, and reach their greatest potential.

Arete Scholars is grateful to the Rotary Club of North Fulton for sponsoring Chase, an Arete scholar at Thrive Academy, to attend the Rotary District 6900 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) this year.

Chase visited the club yesterday to thank the members and share highlights from his week. He said he was reluctant at first to trust and open up to his RYLA classmates. With encouragement from his leaders, he leaned in, and he came away with a new set of friends for life.

RYLA helped bring Chase "out of his shell," taught him leadership skills, and gave him a new level of self-confidence. That confidence, he said, was exactly what he drew on to stand up and speak at the club. His only disappointment? That he can't go back for a second year.

Chase is sharp and goal-oriented, and we have no doubt we'll be hearing more from him.

Thrive Academy's high school dean, Jay'R Robertson, also joined the meeting. Jay'R serves as housing director for boarding students, serving as a role model and mentor in their daily lives.

A scholarship can open the door to opportunity, but a scholar’s journey doesn’t stop there.

Tax credit contributions help fund need-based K–12 scholarships, allowing families to choose the school that best fits their child’s needs. Charitable giving helps fund support beyond the scholarship through Arete RISE, including academic support, enrichment, leadership development, college and career preparation, and more.

Together, these investments help ensure scholars have not only access to opportunity, but the support to grow, explore, and succeed from kindergarten through career.
