September is Library Card Sign Up month, but you already have a Gwinnett County Public Library card as a GCPS student! Your card number is your student ID and your PIN is your birthdate in the MMDD format!

With your library card, you have access to:
📚🎧📱thousands of print books, audiobooks, and ebooks
📰digital publications of magazines and newspapers (like the AJC and NYT)
🎨learning labs covering topics like starting a small business, 3D printing, sewing, and coding!

GCPS employees have a free GCPL card, too! They just need to get connected by going through the GCPS portal and activating their card through Branch Out.

Join us in taking advantage of all of the great resources and programs that the public library has to offer!

When I started planning Freshman Orientation, I knew I wanted it to be screen-free, student-centered, and not involve direct instruction. I combined the concepts of a book tasting and a jigsaw lesson to produce an almost entirely student-driven library orientation.

In the end, student ownership shone through. Through the jigsaw lesson structure, I saw students embracing their roles as “expert” and “teacher” and making sure their peers left understanding the content in the category they were responsible for.

Students left our space with a library book in their bags and equipped with the knowledge of the resources we have to offer to help them have a successful and enjoyable high school experience!

Celebrate World Literacy Day on September 8th (today) with a good book! 📚 Did you know that reading for just 6 minutes a day can lower your stress levels by up to 68%? Beyond taking a quick mental break, picking up a book helps keep your brain sharp, builds your vocabulary, and grows empathy by letting you step into someone else’s shoes.

Help yourself out and stop by the Dacula High School Library and check out your next read! ☺️

Happy September! It's a fresh new month and we have a fresh new Beanstack challenge ready for you🍂📚 Same as August, we are challenging you to read and log at least 300 minutes, which would have you reading about 10 minutes a day (you can do that!!). Did you know that reading for school counts? Reading a Graphic Novel/Manga counts! Reading an audiobook counts!! Helpful tip: if you don't see the title of the book you're reading in Beanstack, scan the book's barcode (ISBN) to add and log! Also- Swipe to slide 2 to join us in celebrating all of the students and teachers who logged 300 minutes in August. Those who met the August Challenge are now eligible for our Year Long Streak Challenge... in May, we will celebrate everyone who met every month's reading challenge 😃 Happy reading!
