Not every veterinary patient has fur or even feathers. 🐍🐊
Last week, students in our Vet Tech Fur and Feather class built on skills they have already practiced with cats, dogs, horses and livestock by learning how those same procedures differ when working with reptiles.
Using one of our campus snakes and our alligator, students practiced safe handling, reptile anatomy and blood-draw techniques. They then took the samples into the lab, where they examined the blood under a microscope and looked for parasites or other potential health concerns.
Hands-on experiences like this help students grow their confidence, expand their range of skills and prepare to care for many different kinds of animals in their future careers.
That’s the kind of practical, real-world learning students can expect at NCTA.
