𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗜𝗻 𝗶𝗢𝗦 𝟭𝟴 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮 𝟯

Earlier today, Apple released the 3rd developer beta of iOS 18. In this article, I’ll explain some differences between beta 2 and beta 3, rather than providing a full iOS 18 feature list. Furthermore, the iOS 18 public beta is rumored to release later this week or early next week.

🌑 Dark Mode Icons
One very noticeable new change is dark mode icon support for 3rd party apps. Apple is doing this without the actual apps needing an update. Another interesting effect of this is that if the app background can’t be a black gradient, the entire icon is darkened slightly.

😊 Emoji Keyboard
Big changes have been made to the emoji keyboard. The keyboard now houses all your Memojis and stickers. The layout size of the emojis has been increased as well.

🎛️ Control Center Toggles
Control Center has received updates to be more stable as well as more accessibility toggle options. These are reflected in the Lock Screen quick toggle options as well.

🎵 Music Quick Toggle
Apple has also added a new Music shortcut for the Lock Screen quick toggles.

🗺️ Maps Dark Mode Icon
A minor change to the Maps app icon in dark mode is now much more vibrant than in the previous betas.

🔦 Flashlight UI
The flashlight UI has been increased slightly in size and looks amazing.

☁️ iCloud Subscribe
A new logo within the iCloud options in Settings. “Subscribe iCloud” with an interesting circular design.

🌄 Dynamic Wallpaper
And the last change I’ve been able to find is pretty cool. You now have a new “Dynamic” wallpaper option. This wallpaper will dynamically change its colors depending on the time of day!

Apple has ramped up security with iOS & iPadOS 18 — the new update coming this Fall. Available as a developer beta, Apple is staying ahead in the security game. With no public jailbreak for arm64e devices (A12 and later) running iOS & iPadOS 17, Apple is making iOS & iPadOS 18 even more secure.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), TrollInstallerX project lead developer shared:

“iOS 18 seems to have introduced a new security feature meaning that arbitrarily-entitled binaries not running as root can no longer spawn binaries as root. This means that in the event of another CoreTrust bug, it is unlikely that TrollStore would be able to support iOS 18.”

This means TrollStore may not work on iOS & iPadOS 18 or later.
TrollStore has been a great tool for installing .ipa or .tipa files on iPhones and iPads without sideloading. Apps installed with TrollStore stay signed indefinitely, without needing an Apple ID like with AltStore and Sideloadly. Though these methods still work on iOS & iPadOS 18, TrollStore’s future is uncertain.

Despite this, TrollStore has been widely used on iOS & iPadOS 16 and older versions (even 17.0). The CoreTrust bug used by TrollStore enabled features that, when paired with a good kernel exploit, made ‘semi-jailbreaks’ like Serotonin possible.

No jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 18 is expected soon — we’re still waiting for one for iOS & iPadOS 17 devices (except checkm8 devices).
