REMINDER: Pigeons are not stupid or simple

London Pidge got terribly sad 😔 the other day when someone labelled them 'stupid'.

Studying, watching and rehabilitating these birds for many years I can 100% say they have complex emotions, are incredibly intelligent.

There is also much scientific evidence and journals. Coming from an academic background I'm so honoured to study these magnificent birds.

--------

They can do puzzle games and tests show they can learn the 26 letters of the English alphabet 🔠

They can remember hundreds of images and recognise people or places, even the difference between art paintings 🖼

Navigate themselves miles back home 🏡

Distinguish between colours 🟡

Form bonds and have a diverse social structure 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

This is only the tip of the iceberg.

---------

Take a moment to watch them, enjoy their beautiful colours, they aren't just simply bobbing around.

“I'm sharing this again with my own commentary because I still think it's important.

This does mention "teach some simple but important commands." I think this is extremely important. Your bird needs to know how to get along in a human world. Specifically, teaching the following husbandry items will help your bird to trust you and to interact safely without fear.

-- Step up/down
-- Station (give you space to clean cage, etc.)
-- Toweling (Allow humane constraint and physical exam.)
-- Stay within a safe perimeter (don't go wandering around the house)
-- Go home (Go back inside the cage at appropriate time.)
-- Stay (Remain stationary for basic grooming without having to be toweled).
-- Open wings/mouth (for visual inspection)

Please teach and reinforce these. Also, don't be surprised if your bird is NOT receptive to other, cutesy training, which they might see as arbitrary and meaningless. Concentrate on husbandry first!”

If adults would only tell the truth to children since day one after they are born the TRUTH wouldn’t be so scary because they would see their parents doing everything possible in the home to make choices to protect the environment.

They’d plant organic gardens for food and pollinators. They save gray water to water plants. They’d
