USACO (United States of America Computing Olypiad), which is open to high school students worldwide 𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁. The winner will represent Team USA at the International Olympiad in Informatics (lOl) held each summer.

USACO requires contestants to use one of five programming languages: 𝗖, 𝗖++, 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗮, 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻, to write computer programs that solve problems, and comprehensively examine knowledge of data structures, algorithms, mathematical logic, programming and so on.

🤔️ 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙄 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙐𝙎𝘼𝘾𝙊?

1. Computer science is a popular major. Participating in USACO and reaching the 🥈 S𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 can be a booster for elite school applications💪.

2.USACO has some 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗣 𝗖𝗦𝗔. Preparing USACO can understand the AP CSA exam better and 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝟱 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀😄.

🤔️How do we properly view AP score?

The AP 5-point rate is somewhat indicative of subject difficulty, but it is definitely not the same as it. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 has a greater impact on the AP 5-point rate.

🙋For example, 𝘼𝙋 𝙋𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝟭 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝟳.𝟵% 5-point rate, but 𝘼𝙋 𝙋𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝘾 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝟯𝟭.𝟱% 5-point rate. This is the opposite of the difficulty rate. This is because many students with 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙨 skip AP Physics 1 and prepare directly for AP Physics C Electricity and Magnetism, while those who take AP Physics 1 have 𝙢𝙞𝙭𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙨.

🙋 Another example, 𝘼𝙋 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙪𝙨 𝘽𝘾 𝟱-𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩 𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝟰𝟭.𝟮% and 𝘼𝙋 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙪𝙨 𝘼𝘽 𝟱-𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩 𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝟮𝟬.𝟰%. 5-point rate for the more difficult Calculus BC is nearly twice as high as Calculus AB. This is because 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 who take Calculus BC are generally strong in mathematics, and the difference in difficulty between the two courses is n𝙤𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩; 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙪𝙨 𝘽𝘾 𝙞𝙨 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 2 more units, which is easy for good Calculus BC test takers

Calculus BC is 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 and is 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙨𝙩-𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 to use for credit. For students in science and technology, Calculus BC is a must.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻🙋：
👩‍🎓 If you have a 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 and 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, you can take Calculus AB, and after you have taken AB in Year 10, you can take BC the following year if you feel good about it. After all, Calculus BC has many benefits for university study.

1⃣️ 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

All universities have a Test-Optional and Test-Flexible policy, except for UC universities, which have a Test-Blind policy.

If you only consider UC universities, you can skip the SAT, but if you want to have more options, such as applying to Ivy League, it is highly recommended to take the SAT‼️

2⃣️ 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆

Documents, activities, etc. are less quantifiable; SAT scores are a direct way to evaluate students. A high standardised score will inevitably give the admissions officer the psychological implication that this student has a good foundation😊.

3⃣️ 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀

If there are obvious weaknesses in your application, such as a low GPA, then you may be able to make up for them if you have an SAT. If you have a high SAT score of 1530+, you will be able to demonstrate your academic ability in a different way, and admissions officers will consider adding points if appropriate😎.
