Some of the best trivia teams in the country showed up this past weekend, and four of our Middle School students came out on top. 🏆

Our Trivia Team took first place at a regional tournament: a field of twelve teams from across the country, in one of the first serious competitions of the season. Among the schools they beat were three that finished in the national top eight last year, out of nearly 200!

It's the team's first win at the varsity level, and it earns them a spot at the national championship in Chicago this coming May.

🌱 Tessie Magic, and a whole lot of quick thinking. Congratulations, team. Next stop: Chicago.

✨ And just like that, we’re back for another magical school year! Our young people returned to campus this week, and you could feel the energy the moment the doors opened.

There’s nothing quite like the first days of a new year: classrooms coming to life, old friends reuniting, new faces finding their people, a whole community settling into the joy and possibility of what’s ahead.

For our gifted learners, it’s about more than a first day. It’s the feeling of a place where they can be curious, challenged, and fully themselves.

🌀 Tessie Magic is back. Wonder. Connect. Begin. https://tessellations.school/

Tessellations Head of School Introduces Closing Keynote at NAIS AI Symposium

Our Head of School, Luthern Williams, introduced the closing keynote speaker at the NAIS Symposium on AI & the Future of Learning. His remarks contributed to a broader national conversation about the role of educators at a time when technological change is accelerating and the world is becoming increasingly complex.

Luthern opened with a call to action:
“Our work is not simply to prepare students for what comes next. Our work is to prepare them to shape what comes next—ethically, responsibly, and in service of the sustainability of our species and our planet.”

He noted that while AI can expand possibility, its use must remain grounded in human judgment, empathy, and character:
“AI cannot—and must not—replace the cultivation of communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and, most importantly, character.”

He also highlighted Tessellations’ ongoing work this year, including the formation of our AI Task Force and our efforts to explore how AI can support differentiation, deepen learning, and preserve time for meaningful human connection in the classroom:
“Our aim is to teach students to use AI not to dominate or extract, but to ignite imagination and expand the boundaries of human potential.”

We are proud to see Tessellations represented at a national level and to take part in these timely conversations.

Tessellations at the NAIS Symposium on AI & the Future of Learning. This week, members of our leadership team—Head of School Luthern Williams, Associate Head of School Bec Bradley, and History Department Chair Mary Hansell, who leads Tessie’s AI Task Force—joined educators from across the country to explore how AI is shaping the next chapter of teaching and learning.

Grounded in Tessellations’ mission and our commitment to whole-learner development, our team is engaging deeply with questions around how emerging technologies can support the work we value most: curiosity, depth, creativity, and human connection.

Across the symposium, three major focus areas guided the conversations:
• Ethical Innovation & Inclusive Design. Exploring AI literacy, equitable access, neurodivergence and accommodations, security and safety, and the role of inclusive design in building healthy learning communities.
• Future-Ready Workforce & Adaptable Organizations. Discussing how to prepare students for emerging workforce skills and agentic AI; trends in higher education that influence K–12; and how schools can remain agile in times of rapid change.
• Empowering Learning Through Technology. Examining AI basics for educators, curricular frameworks for “humans vs. bots,” strategies for engagement and enrichment, and effective models for ongoing professional learning.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this national conversation and to bring back insights that strengthen our work here at Tessellations.

Tessellations Head of School Invited to Introduce Closing Keynote at NAIS AI Symposium

We are pleased to share that our Head of School, Luthern Williams, has been invited by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) to introduce the closing keynote speaker at their AI Symposium on Friday, December 5.

Luthern was selected for this role in recognition of his thoughtful leadership in education. The closing keynote, delivered by Charles Fadel, Founder and Chairman of the Center for Curriculum Redesign, will address Education for the Age of AI—a topic central to the national conversation on the future of education, teaching, and learning.

In his introduction, Luthern will share the work Tessellations has undertaken this year, including the formation of our AI Task Force and our collaboration with parents who are global leaders in AI and robotics, as well as our commitment to integrating AI ethically and responsibly in ways that elevate—not replace—the human skills essential to 21st-century learning: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.

We are proud to see Tessellations represented at a national level and look forward to sharing reflections from the symposium.
