Cecilia's beginner class decided to have a Thanksgiving party right before the break. Everyone brought their favorite food from their home country to share.
Maria (Venezuela) brought fried empanadas made with mashed potatoes and chicken. She also brought her special wasakaka sauce made with cilantro, onions, garlic and mayonnaise.
Bi-Yu and Yi (China) brought fried vegetable spring rolls and fried sesame balls, a sweet dessert.
Altynay (Kazakhstan) brought a pie made with chicken, potatoes, onions, carrots, sweet peppers, salt and pepper.
Noraida (Venezuela) brought a different kind of fried empanadas. Hers is made with flour, beef, bell peppers, onions, garlic and salt.
Nurjahan (India) brought fried simoi. It is a dessert made with wheat flour, butter, sugar, almonds and cashew.
Lielvis (Venezuela) brought grilled arepas made with flour, beef and mayonnaise.
Olena (Ukraine) brought nalistniks, a fried pancake filled with beef, onions, salt and pepper. She also brought her home-made cranberry juice, made from scratch.
Leya and Luigi (Venezuela) brought a fresh fruit salad made with whipped cream, pineapples, apples, cherries and melon.
Marzia, Zara and Gulrang (Afghanistan) brought halwa, a dessert made with rice flour, oil, sugar and raisins. They also brought baked bread, a cookie-like dessert made with flour, milk, oil, eggs and sugar. They also brought freshly brewed loose leaf green tea.

Kaoru Nishi explained how it took her four hours to make the edible Hello Kitty treats which she shared with the class. She also showed a photo of the birthday cake she made for her son. She made the edible cake decorations depicting Japanese anime characters.

Day of the Dead - we ate mole with chicken, drank hot chocolate, ate Mexican Bread of the Dead which was all outstanding! We learned to appreciate the difference between All Hollows Eve and Dia de los Mu***os.
