Parents,
Your students should have brought home their DGP tests from last week either yesterday or today. The scores were quite low. I am not sure if this was due to the excitement over the impending break we had, or if they did not understand the material. Based on the formative (daily) grades I have taken in class, most students understand the parts of speech. However, based on the summative assessment scores, we need to practice. There will be a retest for all students next Thursday, March 01. Below are some links to help your students practice and study for this assessment.

Thanks for all of your support!
Math Homework - Do the evens on the study guide. (We did the first three in class today.) The math test is Thursday over circumference and area of circles. Students can do IXL B30 to help prepare for the test.
We are taking the benchmark tests Tuesday (ELA) and Wednesday (Math).
It is hard to believe, but we are quickly approaching the culmination of the school year. In celebration of the end of fifth grade several special events are planned; the fifth grade field trip, breakfast and dance party, and field day. We would like to take a moment to remind you that each of these events are privileges, not rights.
Students who choose to make poor choices with their behavior and/or work habits will not be allowed to participate. When students are in danger of losing these privileges, a notification requiring both parent and student signatures will be sent home and then need to be returned to school. If the unacceptable behaviors persist, the privileges will be lost.
This was discussed with the students today. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Math homework for tonight is 16.6 from their homework book. Students that need the math re-test on area of irregular shapes should be working on the re-teach packet. If you have not seen your student's test, please ask them for it. All students were supposed to get it signed, even if they made a 100.

Parents,
We have had a great first two school days of 2012! Just a few updates and reminders.
-This weekend, your child needs to start thinking about and/or researching information for their fruit/ vegetable of the year writing assignment. Students are selecting their fruit or vegetable today : )
-The 5th Grade vs. Faculty football game will be on Tuesday, January 17th at 6:00. Encourage your student to come out and play!
-Continue to practice on IXL
- Students MUST be reading a minumun of 30 minutes every night. It is very apparent when students are not meeting this requirement. The best way to improve reading is to practice, practice, practice.
-The CRCT is quickly approaching. Please visit http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/Page/2484 for a variety of resources to help your student practice and prepare for the assessment.
If students are taking the retest on ordering and comparing fractions they need to correct their math test and spend at least 30 minutes on the IXL corresponding to their need. (They should have written these down yesterday.) The retest is Tuesday. They also have a study guide for adding and subtraction fractions with unlike denominators. This test is Wednesday.
Parents,
Please remember that the holiday party is next Friday. You will send in your food items that morning.
Also, we need volunteers to help during the event. We also need a very brave soul to pick up the pizzas. Please let me know if you can assist in either capacity.
Thanks,
Brandy Forde
There will be a conjunction and interjections test on Friday. There will be no study guide for this test. Students are strongly encouraged to study the notes taken during class and the completed and checked worksheets.
