Why Are Rugs Used in a Montessori Classroom?

In a Montessori classroom, even something as simple as a rug has a purpose.

Work rugs help children define their personal workspace, stay organized, protect Montessori materials, and create a calm environment for focused learning. More importantly, children learn to independently choose a rug, carefully unroll it, complete their work, and return everything when finished.

These small routines help build concentration, independence, respect, order, and responsibility—all important parts of the Montessori experience. 💛

Snack Time & Sign Language: Building early communication skills with simple signs like “more,” “milk,” and “eat.” 🍼
