What to expect of a baby at 3 months old?
At three months old it’s still considered as the 4th trimester. But we can also see some rapid development going on.
Motor: You will see more controlled voluntary hand movement. Your baby will be able to start sweep or grasp at an object. Also we expect to see a better head control allowing your baby to hold his head study for short periods. We are able to see eye-hand coordination develop. The baby is able to reach an object intentionally.
Social: We are able to see an increased interest in faces and a deliberate social smile in response to interactions with familiar faces. Turn talking is developing at this very stage. While engaging in a conversation, baby starts to understand when it’s their time to respond.
Sleep: Cluster sleep patterns start to form. At this age your baby can hold an hour and a half awake time in between naps but still needs 14 to 17 hours of sleep in a 24 hour cycle.
Cognitive Development: Your baby has an increased awareness to their surroundings. They have an interest in things that are happening around them. This is a great time to socialize with other babies.
