When we talk about our summer camps having a strong STEAM focus, we know it can sound a bit intimidating for a preschooler. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math are big words for a four-year-old!

But at Ivybrook, STEAM is purposeful play, like testing different materials at the water table to discover which ones sink and which ones float, or building a bridge out of wooden blocks to figure out why it tips over. It is trial, error, and a whole lot of laughter!

An emergent curriculum means that our lessons often evolve based on the interests of the students.

If a classroom of young learners shows an interest in sharks, our educators build long-term projects around that curiosity. Students might research shark habitats in the classroom library, explore buoyancy at the water table, or paint collaborative ocean murals. By pivoting to follow the children's natural curiosity, we ensure high engagement and active participation in their own education.
