☀️Today, our summer program came to an end after 7 weeks!

👏🏻We’d like to take a minute to THANK all the people who made this program possible…

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒THANK YOU all the wonderful families who we came to know and love! Without you our program could not be implemented.

❤️THANK YOU to our village of exceptional volunteers who came out each day to make this program come to life. They helped us hand out lunches, pick up grocery orders, unload truck loads of groceries, pack bags, prep food for cooking demos, and help youth during cooking demos.

👩🏻‍🍳THANK YOU to our partners who made our cooking demos possible each week! Allegany County Library System, Evergreen Heritage Center Foundation and Healthy Living in Allegany County- University of Maryland Extension!

🥪THANK YOU to the cafeteria staff who packed our lunches!

🥘THANK YOU to the partners who provided our grocery bags with nutrition recipes! Allegany County Health Department - Cumberland Maryland and University of Maryland Extension Staff!

🌾THANK YOU to the Allegany Farmers Markets for hosting us this year. Our partnerships with the market and vendors helped us get fresh market items into the hands of our families!

🫶🏻THANK YOU to Potomac Highlands United Way for fiscally managing our program. Behind the scenes they help us manage our budget, raise funds and order our supplies!

⁉️Did you know—The Frostburg Summer Lunch Box Program was relaunched in the summer of 2024, by an ACPS School Social Worker, who wanted to make sure area youth had adequate and nutritious meals during the summer months in the absence of school nutrition programs.

🍽️👩🏻‍🍳Over three summers, our program and partnerships have grown significantly into a model that provides food access and nutrition education.

📣For this week’s partner shout out—I want to recognize ACPS. Our program would not be possible without partnerships from ACPS Community Schools and Board Member, Lori Lepley, who donate time and resources to our program.

And, thank you for the recognition at tonight’s Board of Education Meeting!

☀️So many smiles today at the Farmer’s Market!

🐄We’re always so happy when Kenzi comes from the University of Maryland Extension office. Today, she led our demo and taught us how to make veggie wraps and rainbow fruit skewers.

✌🏻Her two bite club is also a huge hit! If you don’t know what that is… it’s a secret cool club for kids who try new foods. The rule is you must try two bites before you decided if you like a new food or not. It’s a great way to encourage new healthy eating habits with kids!

🗓️Next week is the last week of our summer lunch box program. Stop by the schools and grab your lunches, Monday-Thursday. Then be sure to come to the Allegany Farmers Markets on Friday for our last cooking demo of the summer!

☀️The Frostburg Summer Lunch Box Program, is a volunteer-based and donation driven program. Which means it truly takes a village to put our program together!

🔦Each week we’d like to shine a spotlight on a community partnership that helps make our program possible…

📣This week we’d like to shout out Frostburg Elks Lodge #470. In 2025, they reached out to our organization wanting to join forces to make a difference in the community. Without their continued support our program could not be as innovative and expansive as it is today!

🔑The Frostburg Elks and their partnership serves as a key part of our program. We are fortunate to have their support through volunteer service and funding under the Elks Beacon and Spotlight Grants. The Beacon Grant is designed to help Elks Lodges initiate or expand charitable projects that address the needs of their communities. The Spotlight grant shines a light on three issues facing American communities: early childhood literacy, veteran homelessness, and hunger and essential needs assistance.

🇺🇸The Frostburg Elks have become a valuable asset to ensuring that our program operates year to year! We are so thankful for their partnership and support over the past two years!

☀️Another great day at the Farmers Market with FSLB!

🌲Evergreen Heritage Center Foundation showed up and taught us how to have fun with our food! Their staff did cutting demos and made cute bunnies, boats and sharks with veggies!

🥗 The salads were a hit and looked so delicious!

☀️Don’t forget to join us at the Frostburg Farmer’s Market tomorrow, July 17th.

🌲Evergreen Heritage Center Foundation is leading our cooking demo. They’re teaching kids how to make a fresh salad, including a short demo on cutting up your produce!

🥗Huge shout out to ALL Produce & Greenhouse who supplied our lettuce, spinach, onion, tomatoes and cucumbers for the salads this week!

🧑‍🌾Did you know it’s Maryland Buy Local Week, July 17th-27th? Be sure to stop and check out all the wonderful vendors!

🍯Our Friday grocery bag will have some ingredients and a “Summer Supper’s” recipe to make a honey vinaigrette dressing!
