During these challenging times, it is hard to know where to begin. I have written a post that I wanted to share with you. I hope you find peace and joy during this time.

Where to begin...

Deep breaths. Have you been seeing or hearing as many reminders to take deep breaths lately as I have?

We all know to breathe, but the reminders are helpful. During stressful times (like right now), our breathing can become shallow. Our bodies have a physiological need for oxygen, and when we actually pause to take deep breaths, it helps our bodies calm down. Then our minds can calm and we can center ourselves -- something that most of us need especially right now.

Please know that the stress, anxiety, and fear you may be feeling right now are real. All of these feelings and emotions that come up when we’re in the middle of a tragic event (like right now) are normal. You’re not alone.

So where do we begin when we’re feeling overwhelmed with emotions? Know that what you’re feeling is real, and take deep breaths.

It sounds simple and is easy to dismiss, but it’s the best thing you can do is just to acknowledge and accept where you are and take a breath.

Last week, I got some really bad news. When I heard it, my body was literally shaken. I could feel the energy moving through me in a powerful way, and I couldn’t sort through my thoughts and feelings. So I just let my body shake and I did my best to breathe slowly and deeply.

That’s where I hope you’ll begin today. Acknowledge what you’re feeling (which can be hard, uncomfortable, and unsettling) and take as many deep breaths as you can.

I have a lot of resources and skills that I’ll be sharing with you, but for today, please just breathe.

We are in this together, and we will get through this together.
