100 Languages of Children Access Program Branches Atelier Scholarship Application – 2026
"Applications must be complete and submitted by Monday, May 25th, 2026, at 5 pm PST." 100 Languages of Children Access Program Branches Atelier Scholarship Application - 2026 Now more than ever, children need opportunities to find and use their voices. In this moment, we are reminded of the power of self-expression, the kind that transforms, connects, and surprises. Loris Malaguzzi, the visionary behind the Reggio Emilia approach, referred to paints, pencils, clay, light, movement, and more as "the hundred languages of children." These materials are not just tools, but essential means through which children communicate their thoughts, emotions, and theories about the world....

In Ambar’s ongoing exploration of color, we are also thinking carefully about the creative and technical skills children develop through materials. This week, we introduced very small canvas boards — a shift from the large collaborative work the children have been creating — inviting opportunities for precision, patience, and small motor development.
Using tiny collage pieces, scissors, beads, ribbons, sequins, and treasured materials from home, the children explored layering, composition, and aesthetic decision making.
As the work unfolded, each child approached the invitation in their own unique way. Some seemed to begin with a clear vision, while others discovered new ideas through the process itself.
In Reggio-inspired spaces, we believe materials are more than materials — they are languages for expressing thinking, emotion, identity, and relationship. The children’s work becomes a small window into how they see and make meaning of the world.

What begins as material exploration often grows into deeper thinking.
After weeks of learning the language of clay — rolling coils, pinching pieces, flattening, scoring, and attaching — the children in Mulberry began using clay to represent their ideas about sunflowers.
As the children returned to this work again and again, the teachers wondered what continued drawing them back to sunflowers. Perhaps part of the answer lives in the joy of having time, materials, and an attentive community to bring ideas to life.
In Reggio-inspired spaces, children’s ideas grow through relationship, attention, and the feeling that their thinking matters. 🌻

Teachers posed a question to the Jacaranda class: Can spiders live in the nest with the insects?
As the children shared their ideas, the conversation shifted beyond what could happen to what felt right.
When someone suggested “testing” it, the group paused:
“No testing.”
“No touching.”
Together, they began to consider the experience of the spiders and insects — who belongs where, what feels safe, and how their choices impact others.
This work became about perspective-taking, care, and responsibility to the environment they are creating.
Here, we see children thinking deeply, negotiating ideas, and learning to care for the worlds they build — and the living things within them.
