🎷 Meet Black Velvet — making their public debut at Jill’s Lounge

Something special is happening this Friday night.

Black Velvet is an instrumental jazz trio bringing their own flavor to timeless classics by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, and more.

🎶 Adam Nienke — bass guitar
🎸 Eric Messick — guitar
🎹 Laura Feibelman — flute & keys

And this one is extra special because Friday, September 18 marks Black Velvet’s first public performance.

Come be part of their debut and settle in for an evening of live, unplugged jazz in the intimate atmosphere of Jill’s Lounge.

Friday, September 18 | 7–10 PM
📍 Jill’s Lounge at Ferlazzo1938

Good drinks. Great music. Local talent.
And a debut you’ll be able to say you were there for.

We had a great time at our fifth annual recital! Students volunteered to take turns playing songs from memory after the show ended and the new students can’t wait for the next. Three adult students participated virtually.

Scientists have found that just one year of music lessons can actually reshape a child’s brain. Unlike regular schoolwork, learning an instrument activates both sides of the brain at once, strengthening connections linked to language, memory, and reading skills. It’s essentially a full-brain workout.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Music training also boosts focus, emotional control, and discipline. Even short-term exposure has been linked to faster processing speed and measurable IQ improvements.

In other words, picking up an instrument doesn’t just teach music… it rewires how kids think, learn, and understand the world around them.
