A little reminder to pause, recharge, and enjoy the weekend!

This upcoming Labor Day, we’re celebrating the hard work and dedication of our incredible students, faculty, staff, neighbors, and community partners who greatly contribute to Whee, the place we call home.

Take the day to rest, reconnect, and enjoy a well-earned break. We’ll see you back on campus Tuesday, Catamounts.

We celebrate an incredible achievement by our own Dr. Lisa Lefler, Director of Culturally Based Native Health Programs at the College of Health and Human Sciences at Western Carolina University (WCU).

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ Tribal Council voted unanimously to name Dr. Lefler an Honorary Member of the EBCI, recognizing her more than two decades of service advancing health and well-being through sustained collaboration with Cherokee community partners.

Dr. Lefler’s work, including culturally grounded research on historical grief and trauma and community-engaged programs such as the Culturally Based Native Health Certificate, reflects a deep commitment to respectful learning that honors Indigenous knowledge, culture, and wellbeing.

We are proud of her leadership, her scholarship, and her longstanding dedication to rural and Native communities. Congratulations, Dr. Lefler!
