Students will have the opportunity to accept their position at job orientation on Monday and sign their employment paperwork before beginning two weeks of training.

Last Wednesday, our students showed up ready for their very first formal job interviews. 🤝🏼

They prepared, answered interview questions, practiced professionalism, and interviewed for classroom jobs they were interested in earning.

And tomorrow… they receive their official job offers! 🥹👏🏼

Once they accept their positions, they’ll spend the next two weeks in job training: learning the responsibilities of their role, what is expected of them, and how to do their job well. Then, on October 26th, they officially report for work!

We want our students to leave us knowing how to read, write, and do math…but we also want them to know how to shake a hand, look someone in the eye, interview with confidence, accept responsibility, take instruction, work as part of a team, and understand that being given a job means other people are counting on you.

Academics matter.

But so do character, responsibility, professionalism, and being prepared for real life.

We are SO excited to hand out those job offers tomorrow. 💗

This is what learning looks like at Captivate.

Sometimes it’s gathered on the floor with a whiteboard in your lap. Sometimes it’s curled up on a couch, working through something with your teacher nearby.

Small groups. Hands-on practice. Teachers who know their students well enough to meet them exactly where they are.

No rows of desks required. Just kids learning, growing, asking questions, making mistakes, trying again and actually enjoying the process.

This little school of ours may look a little different, and that’s kind of the point. 💗

If we’re asking our kids to do hard things, you better believe we’re doing them too. 💪🏼

Resilience isn’t something we can just talk about. It has to be practiced.

So when our students run, we run.

When they want to quit, we’re right there reminding them, and ourselves, to keep going.

Because sometimes the greatest lesson we can teach our kids is simply showing them what it looks like to do something hard anyway.

We’re in this with them. Every step of the way.

Back in the saddle while Mrs. B is away living her best life. 😂

A hill I’ll die on as an educator: no matter the age, kids need number sense work.

There are so many ways to scale it so you’re challenging your oldest students while still meeting your younger kiddos exactly where they are.

But they need opportunities to play with numbers. Break them apart. Put them back together. Find patterns. Estimate. Reason. Explain their thinking.

And especially — they need to learn how to manipulate numbers mentally.

In today’s world, if you can find a kiddo who is truly strong in mental math and number sense, you’re usually looking at a child who understands math instead of simply memorizing a procedure.

Algorithms have their place.

But I want kids who can look at a problem, make sense of it, and think, “I know another way to solve that.”

That kind of mathematical flexibility is something we work on from our littlest learners all the way to our biggest ones at Captivate.

We took our resilience training off campus today! 💪🏼

Our students had the special opportunity to train at Wallace State with Coach Justin, getting in some real track time as they continue preparing for the Storybook 5K and One Mile Fun Run.

And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, they got the first-class treatment on the way there and back thanks to Mr. Kirby and Wallace State! 🚌

We’re so grateful for a community that continues to open doors for our students, cheer them on, and help us teach them that resilience is built one hard thing at a time.

Such a fun day for our Captivate crew!
