Spending our Friday date night at Captivate making a few campus improvements, and as I sit here watching my husband make our little school better, I can’t help but think about this past year.
Our lives are so clearly divided into life before Captivate and life after Captivate.
Choosing this path was unpopular. It was different. It felt wildly crazy at times, and quite frankly, plenty of people thought I had lost my mind.
But this year, I added up the amount of time I got back with my children because I chose a different path.
Thousands of hours.
Thousands of hours with my babies that I would have otherwise missed.
And I cried.
Because I think about the mama I’ve been able to be this year. The wife I’ve been able to be. How much more present I have been. How much better I’ve been able to show up for the people God entrusted to me first.
I think about our family as a whole and how much closer we have grown to the Lord because we aren’t constantly being pulled in nine thousand different directions.
Has life been busy? Absolutely. Running one business is a lot. Running two is a special kind of crazy. 😂
But it is a different kind of busy.
It’s a busy we have had the freedom to build around our family instead of building our family around it.
My babies have been beside me while I’ve built these businesses. And then I’ve been home.
I’ve been home.
I don’t know that I will ever have the words to explain what that has done to me.
Tonight I’m sitting here watching my husband install an automated gate so I can be lazy and hit a button to drive into my school 😂 and I just keep thinking…
I’m never going to get over the fact that this is my life.
I get to love your babies.
I get to teach them.
I get to pour into them.
I get to do it alongside the most incredible teachers that I love more than anything.
I get to build something I believe in with my whole heart.
And I still get to put my family first.
Not just say they come first.
Actually live like they do.
They get more of me than the world gets.
And after spending so many years believing that was just the sacrifice you had to make, I cannot explain what it feels like to realize there was another way.
Choosing the different path changed me.
Obedience changed me.
Getting those thousands of hours back changed me.
And I am certain I will spend the rest of my life thanking God that I was crazy enough to follow Him when He asked me to do something that made absolutely no sense to everyone else.
Life after Captivate has been the wildest, most breathtaking chapter of my life.
And I wouldn’t trade it for anything. 🩷
