On Sunday, October 11, the Carey Center for Agrarian Learning (CCAL) and the Liebman Institute for Science Innovation (LISI) partnered to present The Science Behind Fermentation: Trust Your Gut, an immersive, hands-on workshop that received very positive attendee feedback.

Participants explored the science of gut health, made their own sauerkraut using locally grown produce, and sampled fermented products while hearing directly from local producers. The program highlighted the complementary missions of CCAL and LISI, with engaging conversations connecting scientific concepts to real-world applications.

Through thoughtful coordination, hands-on teamwork, and two rotating sessions, the team smoothly accommodated 37 participants, nearly doubling the culinary kitchen’s capacity of 20 at a time, with two outstanding agriculture students attending as well!
