The Midwest Center for Traffic Safety is committed to improving safety wherever people travel—on our roads and on our waterways.

The recent tragedy on the Fox River has sparked an important conversation about boating safety and whether additional measures, including speed limits in certain areas, could help prevent future tragedies. We appreciate Shaw Local for highlighting this important discussion and the importance of exploring solutions that help keep everyone safe on our waterways.

Our thoughts remain with the family and friends affected by this heartbreaking incident.

This effort also reflects the Midwest Center’s broader mission to reduce fatalities and serious injuries across all modes of transportation. As part of that mission, Ari Briskman, our Impaired Driving Education Coordinator, works closely with law enforcement agencies to provide training and education aimed at reducing impaired driving and strengthening enforcement efforts. Whether on the highway or on the water, education, responsible operation, and collaboration remain essential to preventing tragedies.

Read the Shaw Local article and join the conversation:
“Should boaters have speed limits on Fox River? Deadly crash near McHenry ignites push for stricter laws.”

A deadly crash on the Fox River, allegedly involving alcohol and excessive speed, have prompted renewed calls for stricter laws on the water.
